IOW generally has trackside updates (and you don't even have to register) on their message board. http://indianaopenwheel.com/vmessageboard/forumdisplay.php?f=3

But I believe Brady Bacon won again in a chinese XXX built frame (#3 for the week, go figure). They say the chassis are considerably less expensive than American made chassis (approximately $1000 less according to internet ?) , some say the quality control is better, some say the latter. But there are some real good drivers, wing and non wing using and winning in the triple X chassis all over the country. All year in the JEI Mopar for Kasy Kahne, no wins, in fact no wins EVER for Brady in a 410 sprint car. Jumps in this car and beats some of the best 410 teams and drivers in the country. Before this Dave Darland had won 5 times, and got 2 2nds in the last 7 or 8 days, pretty dominant too (various car owners) including the Osky $30K.

Chinese Chassis? Wow, they win all the gold medals at the Olympics, and now they are having an impact in American sprint car racing?

F5/Twister is back!!!!!!! "jdfast" was talking about Dave Darland. Dave had 3 wins in 4 races with the the fourth race being a second. He was in the new, 7r Rick Daugherty owned, F5/Twister Combo Car. I think it was Kokomo when Dave and Cole Whitt both in F5/Twisters, both from the back row, finished First and Second. I heard JJ just purchased two brand new F5/Twisters. " If you're not driving a F5/Twister, you're just chasing the storm." We're BACK!!!

Dave Darland drives for many teams in the midwest, and he wins in almost anything he drives for the local shows.

But presently, or should I say since about the Indiana USAC Sprint Week, Dave has began driving for the potent Scott Benic's Gaerte-powered RWB No. 2b Maxim for the USAC and big shows. Dave almost won Usac Indiana Sprint week (Missed by 7 Points), won his most important race of the year Bob Darland Memorial at Kokomo during the Sprint week.

Than Dave won $30 K at Osky, won a TNT race, and won the TNT Point championship for Benic. I would say that team is pretty dominant.

Robert Ballou also in Maxim has been winning a few big races back there too. Unfortuantely he missed the OSKY $30 K race because his rig broke down to the race.

Cole Whitt who drives for the famous Keith Kunz of Bullet Chassis became the youngest winner of a USAC sprint car race this year. I'm pretty sure if he is driving for Keith Kunz, he drives a Bullet in the big shows, could be wrong.

It should be interesting to see if Kasey Kahne's sprint car team makes any changes. Is there problems there JEI's chassis, Mopar engines, crew chiefs or a combination of the three. Obviously, there two drivers can get it down. Even Joey Saldana on the WOO side has been complaining about setups with the JEI this year.

But the interesting thing about the XXX and their products,(they make axles, bolt on parts, etc.) people on the internet knock them specifically because they are made in a foreign country. But they are are starting to be in the winners circle now with big name drivers, and they claim to be cheaper.

Does anyone run any XXX products in CRA racing?

Personally, I would buy the best products which had the best customer service. I really wouldn't worry about what Dave Darland wins in, I would be more concerned about who wins at Ventura, Santa Maria, Perris and how well the people take care of me. Besides, do you think you are really as good as Dave behind the wheel?

PS Dave did get released of the famous #9 Steve Lewis Toyoyta Midget this week (for the 2nd time in his career), go figure, and Darren Hagan is now driving for the them after splitting with the potent Kunz factory team. Guess the silly season is in full song back there.

At the Kokomo Indiana Midget week race that Dave won, yes he was in Daugherty's F5 car. Whitt was in the family F5 car that night as Kunz was only running midgets. The rest of the TnT tour Dave has been in the Benic Maxim and I don't believe Whitt ran at all.

3 drivers - 1 car. Not a good ratio. Personally, I had a funeral to attend for an old family friend so it worked out okay. Interesting tour although back to back to back 450 mile trips between tracks for the first 3 days made it a little rough. OKC turned out okay, right? Very little dust. Lucas Oil Speedway blows away any track I've ever seen including Knoxville. Perris has a very nice facility but it's a dump compared to Lucas.

"DUMP" ????????????????????   I've heard Perris described a lot of different ways but never like that.

Hello -

We currently have no full timers on the CRA circuit using an XXX chassis. Although as has been mentioned, the car is showing itself to perform extraordinarily well in non-wing races. As for pricing, our bare frame is $1,750...so our claims of being $1,000 cheaper is a very conservative estimate considering most cars are $3,000 right off the shelf. If you have any questions about Triple X Race Co, many of them are answered on our website, www.xxxraceco.com . If you see something that is not addressed, feel free to email me... [email protected] and I will be happy to answer your questions.

Thanks,

Sorry to hear about your friend. I was just busting your chops for you 'personally' not going to Lakeside. It was good to see you in Okie land though. Bummer you guys had such a rough go of the trip. Mike called it the trip from hell!

Agreed that LOS is a top notch facility. Some kind of place huh? Just one itty bitty problem....... They forgot they were building a "race track"! LOS doesn't exactly rate very high with race teams or the fans for their track surface. Ask Jack Y. what he thinks of LOS....LOL! Hope to see you around some dirt sometime soon!

The difference between the PAS and LOS is like the difference between a single A ballpark and a modern major league facility. It's an entirely different world.

Just in the pit area alone - Concrete pad pit stalls surrounded by asphalt. A 3 bay car wash facility to wash the cars after the races. Tiled bathrooms with residential grade wash facilities. They probably have showers in there too but I didn't look. And the restrooms are semi-attended in that they are cleaned throughout the night and supplies replenished. In the freaking pit area. The pitside stands had aluminum seats with seatbacks that give. Oh, and they have an O'Reilly's Auto Parts store in the pits open during the races. The only dirt anywhere in the facility is on the racetrack. I didn't get on the spectator side but it's pretty hard to miss the gigantic jumbotron screen with live racing action and instant replay. Oh, they've got live timing and scoring up there from the car's transponders. The spectator side looked very nice with lots of enclosed suites. What makes it really surreal is that it's in the middle of nowhere, somewhat like Eldora but with a few more neighbors.

Yeah, the surface isn't spectacular but that is a late model track so I didn't expect a whole bunch. I thought the track held up a lot better than I expected based on what I heard. I had also heard that the USAC show they ran had a heavy surface so maybe it all depends. As to Jack complaining, well isn't that how you tell he's still breathing?

OMG that's a funny line line. Even Jack has to laugh at that one. At Lakeside, I do the interviews and 'on track reporting' much like what Holt does at the PAS. Friday night I wound up with pace truck duties to go with the other stuff. When Hagen got into Swindell (and then Ballou joined in the frey) and Jack's car got junked, you can just guess what Jack's temp was.

After the heats were over, I cruised into the pits for news to report to the fans. I figured Swindell and Ballou were done from I saw on the track before they were towed in. I got to Jack's pit and he was letting his thoughts fly! He stated I (meaning me) needed to do something to Hagen and "You all" (meaning Sprint Bandit officials) "better damn well take action!" I knew to let Jack vent a little and I did. Once he paused for a second I said: "Jack, take a look at the side of the truck (had Lakeside Speedway all over it), I'm working for the track not Hahn or Estes. You need to go yell at Tommy (Estes)." He took a small step back, looked down at the door of the truck, looked back at me and started yelling some more! For what happened on the track I understood his frustration and I told him so. I am a Jack Yeley fan through and through. The man tells you whats on his mind and you definitely know where he stands. God bless him. The sport could use more Jack Yeley's!!!!

Hagen crashed into Ballou, not Swindell. Swindell got involved after the initial contact from a terrible attempt at a slidejob from Hagen aimed at Ballou.

You are correct Andrew. I had the mindset of Jack's viewpoint in mind as I was typing my statement thus I said Swindell instead of Ballou. Jack doesn't care who got hit first, he just got upset at the driver he felt caused the whole mess in the first place and tore up his race car.

As mentioned above, I wound up taking on pace truck duties that night. I'm not going to play defense attorney here but I will say that as I ran around the track before and after that heat, the very spot Hagen tried his move was the wetest part of the track. Unlike turns 1-2, I wouldnt hold the pedal down in 3-4 for fear the rear end was going to come around on me.
