Did anybody ever ask themselves why, besides the money, one of SFS recurring champions would buy a track less than 50 miles from SFS and open it??? Skip one Friday night, come run with us on Saturday. The midget would have a hemmorage. Personally I haven't been to SFS in years. I learned a long time ago, the best way to let a businessman know you're unhappy with his product or performance is to not take your business there anymore. Lanny does not own the ONLY tracks in Oklahoma, nor even the only one reasonably close to OKC. I figure eventually the expense of maintaining or repairing/remodeling the grandstands will be more than the fairboard is willing to spend and the track is gone, history or not. Lots of tracks have been torn down, history or no. Sad, yes. Stoppable, probably not.

i don't agree with some of the things the little man does, but without him the fairgrounds WILL close. you have a better chance of getting through to lanny than you do of having a state fair speedway without him.

look ya'll
the notion that not showin up would stun lanny is WAYYYY off. if you are holding that thought - you are ignoring some very important facts. the main fact being that - there is a reason he doesnt give a shit to listen to any of us - the CHILI BOWL. that one race affords him to do whatever he wants - whenever he wants. so if you want to stage a walkout - make sure you have a hammer and some nail the week before. because it will be mean the death of the track. because if that were to happen - lanny would just say the hell with it - he makes enough money 1 week in january than most of us see in a few decades. he aint gonna sacrifice 1 iota of pride or anything. you - and i - have absolutely no clout over him. NONE. if the show ever becomes un-profitable - and lanny takes off - the decision rests with the fairboard. what do you think they will do? look for another promoter? put down the pipe - they are all businessmen - and to them - if a hall of fame promoter with 40+ years of experience cant do it - no one else can either.
ya'll need to think about these things before you think you have any say over ANYTHING with that track. you dont. fans and drivers might work at some tracks - but considering lanny does not OWN state fair speedway - and that he has the moneymaker in tulsa - he has ALL the say,
god dam it think. please. think! the only thing i could think of so far - that i careful on here to not explain. the hell with it. i will anyway. the only way you get lanny out and keep the track - is to have some heavy financial backing from a very successful local businessman or a few of them - the money is necessary - but what is most important is INFLUENCE. because lest you forget - the decision rests with the fairboard - and thats it. its a very complex issue. many elements need to come together to accomplish both. the fairboard are businessmen - no matter what they hear about him being a dick - they still see one of the most successful promoters in the history of dirt track racing - and what are we to them? to them we look like whiny little bitches. you have to have influence. you have to PROVE to those businessmen how the track would be better and make more money under someone else. someone they are familiar with or at least heard of. and you have to have the backing of someone local. with a lot of influence and sway. and considering who the fairboard is made up of - it better be someone influential with bricktown. in other words - we are pretty much screwed. because none of us have the time or resources to pull such a thing - or to go out and look for it. instead the hot headed take the crap week in and week out - so that when they tired of it - they start talkin bout stickin it to him by not going. that only sounds good because it takes no effort on the behalf of those who are saying it lol. we're all pissed at how things are done - but you cant just jump up and speak of quick resolutions because you are mad. this type of thing takes time. much more time than it would at almost ANY other track. other tracks dont have a promoter that has a race as big of the chili bowl. and also it would be well to remember - that lanny and ascs are best of buds (or better yet business partners) - so if you get lanny out - the odds of keeping ascs diminish. it might have sounded good to a select few a couple years ago to entertain the thought of getting the lease - and turning the track into a major modified track -------- but had they have pursued it - they would be in the poor house right now - the fans at SFS want SPRINT CARS - most the places where mod shows have become the MAIN thing - is because they dont have or cant with sprints.
this is a battle that if you serious about winning - you better have some brain cells, lots of money money, and a big ass stick. a rare combination indeed.............

Good post, however, the following is nothing more than opinionated speculation, stated as facts.
"might have sounded good to a select few a couple years ago to entertain
the thought of getting the lease - and turning the track into a major
modified track -------- but had they have pursued it - they would be in
the poor house right now - the fans at SFS want SPRINT CARS - most the
places where mod shows have become the MAIN thing - is because they
dont have or cant with sprints."
If that's your opinion you're entitled to it and more power to you. Other than that I think there is a lot of truth in what you say and I mostly agree with your assessment of the situation.
Walking out won't harm Lanny... only the SFS.
I like dirt!

You made some good points. I am an ASCS fan but also I am a mod fan. I know you are die in the wool sprint car fan that is fine but I think there are a few more mod fans than what people think. Some of them I think are a little hesitent to post because of the backlash they might get about being a mod fan.
Fan, I do not know if you remember or not but the promoters you speak of wanted to run ASCS sprints at the track. They wanted both a big mod show and a big sprint show. Just the powers that be wanted to go with Lanny.
You answer me the question as to why Batesville speedway that runs a big mod show yet the track does not have weeds growing if you think big mod shows do not generate money. I will put that I do not know if Mark Martin has his hand somewhere in the track also. I do remember David having an interview with Kevin Ramey about driving a mod and Ramey said that there are more big money shows than the sprints.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Except for the fact that this is the internet, you could yank this thread out and transport it back 20 years and it would make sense. Some of the first names have changed, but the last names stay the same.
