Brett Miller ready for Care Free Pools Night at Silver Dollar Speedway
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – July 29, 2008…After competing in a double-header with the Golden State Challenge Series last weekend Chico’s Brett Miller is geared up to kick off the month of August with Care Free Pools Night at Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday.
This past weekend saw Miller and team shaking down a new motor that had arrived on Thursday evening and after a few problems during hot laps and qualifying on Friday, things began to turn around and the Care Free Pools, Platinum Powder Coating No. 1x very nearly transferred out of the heat race.
The 19 year-old had initially started eighth in the heat race Friday night at the Silver Dollar bullring, but after the driver lining-up in front of him got over the edge and came to a stop on the first start, it bumped him up to the outside of the third row. Miller then put the car on the extreme high side of the speedway and made a couple of great moves to get into third on the next two attempted starts, but each time the yellow lights came on for stalled cars.
Race officials then decided to line the cars up single file, which hurt Miller as he started from sixth and didn’t have a clear enough path to try to make something happen on the still fast surface. “The Catfish” still tried everything he had and got into fifth after a couple laps before closing in on Shane Golobic for the transfer. Miller gave Golobic a couple peaks, but couldn’t get by and was forced to run the B-main where he went on to finish 10th.
After getting a full night of racing with the new motor Miller and the gang came back on Saturday looking for good things at the Golden State Challenge Series season ending Tribute to Gary Patterson. The Chico driver began the event by timing in the JP’s Paint & Body, Bulter Built Performance Maxim 11th fastest and bringing home a sixth place finish in a stacked heat race, that also included veterans Jonathan Allard, Brent Kaeding, Mike Henry and Greg Decaires.
It once again put Miller into the B-main, but on this night he would move forward from his inside row three starting spot to finish third and transfer into the main event. Lining-up 11th in the 30 lap feature Miller looked good early on as Scot Clarke and the team hit the set-up for the racy track surface. After the first few laps Miller began to dice it up with multiple drivers around the eighth position. “The Catfish” looked to make the move by Brent Kaeding around lap five, but the 13-time GSC champ was able to get drive off the second corner to maintain the position.
Miller continued on, but just before the midway point he got bottled up behind a car that had gotten over the edge in turn four, costing him a number of spots. As he went into turn one that same lap a bunch of cars got jammed up again and Miller hopped a right rear tire sending the Al’s Concrete, Wolfe Electric No. 1x upside down. The crew did a great job to get him back out on the track, but issues arose just before the end and he pulled off the speedway before the finish to put an end to the weekend.
