Leiby also stated that money doesn’t seem to the answer for local racing as the track’s 56th Anniversary show last Saturday only drew 24 cars for the $5,600 to win, increased purse.
“What was the problem that night,” he asked. “We paid $5,600 to win, we didn’t penalize anyone and we ran time trials but still only had 24 cars. We are better off to just race a regular show and the pay the $3,000 purse. I just don’t understand why some teams would not support a race that pays so much more money when that seems to be what they all want.”
The cost of the racecars is the main problem. That's why the cheaper 358s need to run two B-mains at Lincoln each show while only racing for a $1000-to-win.

And less that 40 for the Kings Royal. Maybe in todays economy teams that know they have no chance to WIN look at what it pays for the last 8 spots in the A or what the B pays and decides it's not worth it. Leave the "to win" pay alone and raise the back of the payoff and you may see more teams show up.

I couldn't agree more, you TRY to give them more and it was one of the smallest fields of the year. That race paid $2,900 MORE than Port to win and still no takers. I could understand why Mark Smith, Hodnett (although he brought up the lack of $ in victory lane), Shaffer, Erdley, etc..wouldn't show since they run for points at Port. I did not understand not seeing Kauffman, Winegardner, Ryan Taylor, and a few others. Maybe some of the smaller teams thought they're be more cars at Lincoln and were worried about not making the show at all so they figure they'd go to Port where a full car count happens once out of every five races? When it comes to running a first class program and giving the fans their money's worth, it's tough to beat the Leiby's. When they say "we will race", it means you better get the extra 6 in the 30pack, because it doesn't matter if it's 1-2am, you will see a race.

I pretty sure the anniversary race at Lincoln had a nicely increased payout all the way back thru the field.

Really surprised Hodnett didn't show, thought maybe Taylor and Winegardner as well. I think most of the port teams think they can't beat the Lincoln regs on their home turf and they're probably right. They haven't even been able to touch the Lincoln guys at Port this year. Might have to get their elbows up and do a little racing at the linc instead of just stomp and stear and get in line at the port.

The 410s have everything going for them. They are paid three times the purse of the 358s. They are also way more prestigious to run than the 358s. The only reason twice as many 358s show up is because it is much cheaper to field a competitive car.

You just proved my point. 410's are NOT paid 3 times the purse as the 358's. $5685 X 3 = $17055 NOT $13370. Pay for last in 358's is more than 1/2 for the same spot in the 410's. 120 x 2 = $240

The 410s have a lot more high paying shows regardless, including the one at Lincoln last week that no one showed up for. They're too expensive for their own good...unnecessarily too expensive. They need to unhook 'em and take the cubic inch limit off.
