hahaha, this thread has been hilarious to read. From "proof" of a conspiracy, to the real truth being told. Gotta love it.
As for the remark about being "real" Outlaws and running the "big" shows like PA Speedweek etc... Every PA Speedweek race pays less than a regular Outlaw race. Same w/ Ohio Speedweek. The Outlaw point fund is $200k to the winner. What is the Speedweek point fund pay to the winner? $2500?

which mean they both pay the hauler fuel bill to run the week / season...and that is about IT!

Lets see....how many people who have posted were there? This was the biggest bunch of BS ever witnessed.
This isnt about Steve Kinser and if you think it is then you clearly missed Kemenah and McCarl bitchin as well. This is about doing whats right and what was right was Donny SCREWED UP and ran the worst two laps of the night by anyone qualifying. He should have paid the price and been 29th quick. He was the only person who ran the bottom. He ran the same exact line 2 laps in a row. The only thing that was in Donny's way was himself. Of course he is going to request a 3rd lap cause he was sooo slow and he knew it!! Do you really think he was going to ask for a 3rd lap if he ran the top line and a 13.9 to start with instead of the 14.25 and the 14.5? I"m sure that somewhere in the mass of humanity in pit lane his crew told him to get to the top for the third attempt.
I think everyone should get another lap because there is always another car on the track when qualifying at Eldora and this was the first time I have ever seen another lap granted. The Outlaws have no consistency in their rules what so ever. Why was Kenny Jacobs penalized for not backing out of the trailer on time and Meyers, Kinser, Madsen backed out late too?
Then again, the often heard peanut gallery in here who didnt attend the race knows everything. So keep commenting on what you didnt see.

Oh No, Steve Kinser is trying to start a lobby to get NST version 2.0 started. Or is it USA version 2.0?
He's the best there ever was in a winged sprint car, but I wish he'd show some more class. Not showing up for an interview after getting beat by Meyers at Limaland was bad enough. But packing all his stuff up for a $50k to win race is ludicrous even if the call was questionable. The fact that he "graced" his fans with an appearance later is beside the point. I wonder if Steve remembers where the next race is. It's a $40k to win event at a track the Outlaws own. Will he show up? Will he pack it in if he doesn't time well?

Kenny was wondering about that too. His logic was that since he was parked next to the "command center" he was the easiest for them to see.

Listened to that one on the scanner, too. Meyers, Kinser, and Madsen had pushed back a little and were no longer working on the car. They were unable to back out because cars were lined up behind them. Kenny's crew was still working on the car.

This was the point of my original post! It had nothing to do with Steve Kinser. Schatz blew TWO laps - not just one - and got a do over. It's like the punk-ass kid who blows it playing a video game and hits the reset button. Steve Kinser's web site has a nice piece about this whole mess. Go read it.

Steve's web site rant is in very poor taste IMHO and not becoming of someone of his status. Mermaid's post told it like it happened - she WAS there and listening to the scanner and confirms what I was told by a highly reliable and trusted source who was also there at the track. But the true facts matter little to the conspiracy theorists - y'all can believe what you want - your minds are already made up anyways. Reminds me of an old saying - "Never try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig."

If it were in the best interests of the WoO teams to be "true outlaws", they would be doing just that. Nobody holds a gun to their heads forcing them to run with the WoO.
How many "big" shows are there that aren't sanctioned? Not many. Without the WoO or the All Star series', just how many races around the country would pay as much as $5000 to win, much less at least $10k at every WoO race?
Throw in tow money to series regulars and points funds and TV and marketing....there are plenty of reasons guys choose not to be "true outlaws"...
|
The last I knew the highest paying 410 show in the country is non-sanctioned. Knoxville Nationals ring a bell? The Doty Classic was non-sanctioned for most of it's existence until they screwed that up twice, once by moving it from Attica and second by sanctioning it (which dropped the to win Money), which is probably the reason it was moved to begin with.
Back in the day all of these big shows at Eldora were non-sanctioned at one point or another.
"Without the WoO or the All Star series', just how many races around the country would pay as much as $5000 to win, much less at least $10k at every WoO race? " The AllStars pay $5000 to win and at the WoO's current rate it's easy to see why there aren't many $10,000 to win shows, because you'll go broke trying it, it's being proven before our eyes.
If they're getting all this TV money then when is it going to show on the bottom line. Yeah you might say the TV brings the sponsors to the teams, but don't think for a minute that World Racing Group isn't getting a piece of the pie.
Maybe when this circus tent is finally folded up, we'll see some high paying races that are unsanctioned again.
The WoO is just like our government, inept at doing anything right, except wasting money. Put the ball back at the local "tracks" level and bring back the good ole days of picking up a paper (internet now) and finding the good paying shows to go hit. Just my wishful thinking.

That's been one of my points for a couple years now. Every race DOES NOT have to have a sanction behind it. You pay the big bucks for a WoO show and they bring about 15 cars, the ASCOC might not bring more than 10 cars once you leave OH. To me it's not worth it, promoters and tracks should try something on their own. Bring back the good ole days.

Jim Ford did just that at Fremont (Ohio) in 2007. Last show paid $15,000 to win and had a great car count and big fan count and was won by Stevie Smith. Take that money a track has to pay for sanction fee (lots of money in WoO case) and just put half of that into the purse and you have something!

I don't care when the outlaws made the call... it's subjective, their on whim...it's a judgment call... i think the bitch wasn't so much about the call, just that the calls aren't consistent... like throw the white flag twice, or a caution if there was that much interference... for an official to go "well, i think it was interference we'll see what the driver wants to do..." is stupid... it'd be like ken griffey striking out and then the ump going you sure the sun wasn't in your eyes, you want another swing... i am 100% sure kinser got favorable treatment in the past too... and so did michael jordan, wayne gretzky, joe montana everyone else that was on top... but christ almighty... I agree with Bear... it was the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen... if they would have just explained the situation better, or thrown the caution IMMEDIATELY when the official thought there was a problem... or whatever else someone can think of... then it would have been better...
side note: i hate donny schatz... so anytime i can bitch that he is in someone screwing someone else, i'll do it... lol... I doubt me and most of the rest of the crowd would have been nearly as rev'd-up if it would have been Blaney or Haud that got the extra lap... lol... (if it's him in Lasoski racing for the win at Knoxville, I'll be cheering for the 15... or jump off the back of the grandstands...)
devil's advocate thought: my disdain for the WoO is also well documented... but is it any coincidence that the guys that have done the best over the last two years since the NST debacle are guys that stayed with WoO - Donny, Joey, Dollansky... so maybe the WoO isn't that bad...
that said... I'll keep wearing my NST shirt, bitching every chance I get about the WoO and the 15 car... and hope (yes, I know PA Speedweek shows pay $2500, and with tow money/contingency money, free tires/pitpasses/motels/etc. that it is probably not feasible) that guys run random shows, whether it be non-wing, 360 or whatever... of course like McCarl said, it ain't going to matter how much we bitch...
gerbils.
I wish Earl still did Eldora's track prep.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago everyone was in an uproar about TMAC getting a "mulligan"?
Evidently there are other drivers besides Schatz involved in the "conspiracy".

The exact same thing happened in Grand Forks a couple of weeks ago during the WOO show except it happened to a local. Casey Mack went out for his qualifying lap and there was a car on the track but clearly out of any racing line. The WOO officials said on the scanner that there was interference and the he would get another lap, but only if he complained at the scales. They called it early in the qualifying run but didn't display green for two laps, or white for two laps. He was only granted the extra lap if something was said at the scales. I was NOT at Eldora, I was just stating that it has happened at least once before this year, and it was not for one of their drivers. Just for the record Casey never took a third lap.

maybe the "whine for an extra lap rule" has only been explained to the chosen platinum members in good standing...and others are not aware that they need to whine on cue at the scales?
anyone hear this explained at a driver's meeting?

that is one of the best ideas that has hit this message board in years.
HRP in Baytown Texas held an ASCS regional event last month. I think a local Ford dealer flipped for the sactioniong fee. HRP gave out free tickets (mailed them to people on there mailing list) not sure how many the gave per person but i know it was alot. FREE ADMITION!!! they charged $10.00 to park. ( instead of $18.00 per person ) $10.00 if you had one person in your car or a school buss full of people. Result: standing room only in the stands, concessions sold out, Pure profit to the track. ( remember i said a local ford dealer sponsered the purse?) if more tracks thought like this i think racing would gain more fans. i know this was a little off subject but i think it was worth mentioning.

This tells the story of what Steve is and can do!!! LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!
At the Four Crown Nationals USAC race in Rossburg, Ohio, on October 11, 1981, Earl Baltes, owner of the Eldora Speedway, describes what he calls the greatest driving performance in Eldora history.
After running a World of Outlaws event in Syracuse the day before, Steve Kinser climbed into Johnny Vance's #1 Aristocrat Products car substituting for the injured Rich Voglar. With no pratice laps, no qualifying run, and sitting in a car he's never driven before, Steve Kinser begins the race from the tail end of the pack. The field included drivers such as Sheldon Kinser, Bob Kinser, Jack Hewitt, Larry Rice,Tom Bigelow, Little Joe Saldana, Dave Peperak, Greg Leffler, and Steve Chassey. The rest , as they say, is Eldora History. Steve Kinser pulled through the entire field and won the race with a standing ovation. " That thrilled me so much I could hardly believe it, " says Baltes.
On that same day, Kinser once again subbed for the injured Voglar but this time in Vance's #3 Silver Crown car. Others on the grid included Gary Bettenhausen, Ken Schrader, and Larry Dickenson, as well as Rice, Hewitt, Leffler, Bigelow, and Sheldon Kinser. With the same handicap as before, strange car, no practice laps, and starting near the back of the field, Kinser won the race again. As Earl Baltes reflects on that day, he states " Nobody even comes close to that. "

Lets see,2o WoO championships,12 gold cups,1990 c.r.a.10,ooo dollar bonus,NONWING,4-crown natls.1981.only driver to win 13 features in a row,1987.5 or 6 national opens,6 kings royals,12 knoxville nationals,IROC victory, need i go on? damn Donnie, ican;t blame you for being jealous, but i know one thing, you will NEVER come close to doing what the KING has in racing.he done it with talent, and the will to win. it;s a pretty safe bet you will have a lock at eldora, since Tony can get you all the laps you need to qualify, which is CLEARLY what happened.I know Steve well enough to know one thing, you piss him off, you will have to deal with him.I really do hate what took place Sun.,for the damage it does to the sport, but the KING stood up for every driver, crew member, and fan that got the shaft that day.hell,i won;t even trust the clock at eldora again.will you? way to go Tony, you better look at the no.of green shirts in the crowd, the majority didn;t come to see you get Donnie fixed out to win it.Gotta go,WWE re-runs are coming on.
