Tim Kaeding Returns and Wins at Chico

(Chico, CA 7-12-08)...New car, new team and the same result. Tim Kaeding won the 30-lap King of California Golden State Series main event on Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. It was Kaeding's first start aboard the Roth Motorsports #83jr and things could not of turned out better. “I have to thank the fans and especially the Roth family for the opportunity given to me for the rest of the season,” said Kaeding. “That was a fun race but I think I need an oxygen tank.” He also added, “Dennis told us to just go out and have some fun and try to get as many wins as we can. We are going to do a little non-wing racing too.” Tyler Walker led the first part of the race and ended up second. Kaeding moved around Walker while the two were racing in lapped traffic. “We've been hit by so many lapped cars this year I just get so nervous and timid to pass them,” said Walker. “It cost me the race tonight.” Third spot went to Brad Bumgarner. It was a career best finish and a moment he'll remember for a long time. The Chico native said, “My grandparents give me great stuff to race and I have to thank them for all their support. I also have to apologize to Jonathan (Allard). I completely ran into him on a restart and spun him around. I know he's in the point battle and I felt terrible but honestly I had no brakes. I went into turn one and the brake pedal went to the floor.” Allard rebounded to finish seventh and still keep a strong hold on the point lead. It was Kaeding's fourth win of the year during the King of California and 38th career win. A total of 27 cars attended the Golden State Series race.

The 30-lap main event was a marathon instead of a sprint. A total of seven flips resulting in seven reds. On a lap 18 red, the officials decided to allow the crews to add fuel and replenish the drivers tear offs. The first red occurred on lap one when rookie driver Brent Bjork flipped in turn one. Mark Hall had the top spot and led the field to a restart. Hall had won the six lap dash that earned him the right to start on the pole on the main event. However, his lead was short lived. Going into the first turn Hall bounced through a rut and flipped upside down. Bring on a new leader. Jason Statler was the driver to now take over the top spot. Yet, on lap five he encountered problems of his own. In turn four a three car accident occurred right in front of Statler. With nowhere to go Statler slammed into Chris Masters and broke his front end. Also involved in the wreck were Mason Moore and Ken Fredenburg. Tyler Walker was now the new leader. Walker was in search of his fourth win of the year.

Lap nine another yellow slowed the race when Jason York and Mark Workentine had contact coming out of turn two. York collapsed his front end and went to the infield. Workentine stopped in the back stretch to bring out the yellow. Walker continued as the leader. Tim Kaeding moved into the second spot and began to close in on Walker as the two entered slower cars. The third car in the mix was Jonathan Allard. On lap 17, Walker was still trying to figure a way around a slower car when Kaeding went to the top side of three and four and passed Walker for the lead. On the next lap a red was needed for Brent Kaeding. It was an awkward night for Kaeding to say the least. The night started off by him going over the sound meter and needing to re-qualify. He went back out and for the second time was too loud. He then raced his way into the main event by transferring from the B main. In the main event he started 20th and worked his way up to sixth on lap 17. On the next lap he flipped in turn four. He was able to continue on and starting charging to the front again. Yet on lap 22, Kaeding went up and over Tyler Wolf's right rear tire and flipped in turn two. Two flips in one race and Kaeding was done for the night. Not to be out done by Kaeding, Hall was running in the top ten with three laps to go when he flipped in turn two. It was his second flip of the night also. As Hall said later in the pit area, “leave it to us veterans to flip twice in one race.”

On the lap 18 restart, Brad Bumgarner went into turn one and clobbered the back of Allard's #0. Allard spun through the infield and fell back outside the top ten. Bumgarner moved into third and it was later reported he had no brakes which caused the altercation with Allard. Bumgarner was able to hold his own and went on to finish in third. In front of him Kaeding controlled the race. Walker was right there on Kaeding's bumper but was never able to close in. Kaeding crossed the line with a few car length advantage.

The only driver to secure two top five main event finishes this weekend was Chico's Kevin Sharrah. He was driving the Double D Customs #4, a new team that emerged less than two weeks ago. Last night he finished third in the feature. Tonight he finished in fifth. Sacramento's Mike Henry placed in the fourth spot. The Racing For Troops #93 started in 12th but was able to race his way into the top five finish.

Evan Suggs started ninth and finished in the sixth position. Suggs also won the 12-lap B main that went non-stop. Allard was seventh. Shane Golobic started 18th and worked his way to an eighth place finish. Mason Moore came from the 21st starting spot to finish ninth. Bud Kaeding was in a top five spot all race long until a flat right rear tire sent him to the work area on lap 22 and he was able to work his way back to a tenth place finish.

Heat race winners included Tyler Walker, Dan Simpson and Tim Kaeding.

Walker started the night by winning his fifth quick time award of the season. His quick lap was a blistering 11.590.

Mark Abouzeid won the 20-lap dirt modified main event. It was his fourth win of the year out of six starts during the Feather Falls Casino championship series. Abouzeid led the first five laps until he went to the pit area to change a flat tire. He returned to the rear of the six car field and a few laps later took the lead back. Abouzeid passed Mike Compton and went on the lead the rest of the race. Abouzeid has now won six times this year at Chico in the modified division. Compton was second followed by Derick Colvin. Abouzeid swept the night by winning the lone heat race.

Is there any doubt that this guy is the best driver out there that isn't in the seat of a solid full time ride? This guy can drive the wheels off of any car he sits in but ride hops to fill his schedule...doesn't make sense to me. He is better than almost every driver on the WoO tour and isn't on the WoO tour....????

There is absolutely no doubt TK is on hell of a driver. But there must be a reason he cannot stay in a ride. There is this thing called baggage. Don't know what it is, but the truth be known, there is probably more than one bag full.

Don't think it has anything to do with baggage. It's just racing. It's a business and not all are ran the same.
Why in hell would you take a driver that has ran in the top 10 most of his time on the circuit ?(Paul McMahon)and replace him with Kraig Kinser. If not mistaken Kraig had not been in a Sprint car for several years. He is struggling to make the Mains. Mean while Paul is back on the circuit and finishing in the top 10's. Business owners and operators make mistakes all the time and you will see it often in racing.

Tim has had his up's and downs and some caused by his own actions.But most of the time it's been a change of crew and or sponsorship that has ended his rides. Thus running the Kinser car. They had no sponsor and ran out of money. Had nothing to do with baggage.

He has been with Roth several times and did well.I would imagine that he will be back touring with the Woo next year if not in this car but perhaps in another.

Is Danny The Dude only running locally with Forebrook because of baggage? No it's just the way the car owner and or sponsors want it.

I just want to see him win GOLD CUP. He has been soooooo close...

I agree, it is just business. All car owners and sponsors do things diffefret, i agree tk is a badass driver and exciting to watch... no matter what car he is in. Just watch out for JA at Gold Cup! Him and TK both should be on the podium together!
