as stated in a prior post this fri will be the 3rd round of qualifying for the johnny key classic in the wright one 360 series at ocean speedway in watsonville, ca. it would be hard to argue that the wright one series for 360 winged sprints has not become the most competitive 360 track series. we all know the civil war series is as competitive as it gets around here for 360's so i am not taking away from that! as a track based series the wright one series has offered race fans in our area the chance to see some of the best sprint racers in the area a little more often, racing against some of the up and comming talent. as i said this fri will give 3 more drivers the chance to capture one of the top 14 premier starting spots for a race that dates back to the early years in this area. before the trophy cup, before the lloyd beard race, before the pombo-sargent, before the bradway, GP classic and the rest the premier racing event in our area, as well as i dare say out of our area as well, was the johnny key classic. as racing declined and virtually stopped around the san jose area the key race lost its place at the top of local racing prestige. as local sprint racing is in the process of regrowing, it is fitting that the key race should be a part of local racing once more. those that are from years past can still feel the importance of the race that honors the man from salinas that marshall sargent chose to honor by running johnny's number, number 7. i am sure past winners of the key race, of which i believe 5 could possibly be in this years running, hold their wins in high regard. i am sure that todays drivers, at least the ones who are old enough to remember the past prestige of the key race, are looking forward to putting it on their list of wins. i heard, but am not positive, that tyler walker will be running on fri. that just adds to the already fierce competition for the 3 qualifying spots up for grabs this week. racing is not as popular around here as it once was. i guess there are too may reasons for it being that way to get into. i am just glad those of us who still love the sport are able to participate locally and have a chance to try to pass things on to those who will have interest. i hope all who can will come out for these next 360 shows and help keep it alive. i know that gas has gone up as well as other things and that some folks just don't have the money to do some of the things they would like. watsonville is not so far or out of the way that most could not go who would like, but still it would be too bad to miss some great sprint racing so close. maybe some of you who have a few extra bucks could treat some friends or family to a great night of racing soon! just a thought. http://www.oceanspeedway.com/schedule.php will get you the ocean speedway schedule. you can find the WRIGHT ONE 360 SPRINT CARS listed and mark the dates. thanks.

Count me in. I'd love to run one of those especially if it means I get to race against Joey!
