Sherman Adds Lealand Legacy to ASCS Canyon Victory Ledger
Lonnie Wheatley, PHOENIX, Ariz. (July 5, 2008) – Jeremy Sherman completed a sweep of the weekend's Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region racing action by topping Saturday night's 30-lap "Lealand Legacy" main event atop Manzanita Speedway's ½-mile clay oval.
In the inaugural running of the event honoring Arizona open wheel racing legend Lealand McSpadden, Sherman notched his sixth win of the season and 18th in ASCS Canyon Region over the past two years aboard Fred Bryan's Wesmar-powered F&E Development No. 77.
While Sherman worked his way forward from the 14th starting slot, eighth-starter Charles Davis, Jr., paced the early portion of the feature.
Sherman ultimately took command and raced to the checkered flag, with Davis settling for runner-up honors. Pole starter Josh Pelkey claimed the show position, with R.J. Johnson and Shon Deskins rounding out the top five.
Mike Leslie was sixth, with 13th-starter Mike Martin, Nathan High, Andrew Reinbold and Justin Fisher completing the top ten.
Shon Deskins won the Trophy Dash, with Davis, Brandon Lane and Leslie victorious in heat race action.
Jeremy Reagles crashed at the start of the third and final heat race and was transported to a local hospital for observation.
Derek Sell escaped injury in a feature flip.
