Kings Royal - What kind of numbers predicted for car counts this year? Enough to run the traditional 6 heat race format you suppose?

Despite what some of you think, the start time will have little bearing on the car count. What would have a bigger bearing on the car count would be an increased purse in the C and B Main. Let's face it, practically every driver with a snowballs chance of winning (ie - the WoO) will be there. Many of the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan locals realize their chances of making the A are so small that they would rather stay at home. This is the same reason that KC, Fremont, and Sharon will all race 410's that night because they realize the same thing (that the KR won't have much affect on their car count). Now if they bumped up the purse in the C and B - you would see a big jump in the Eldora car count. I would predict the normal 50-55 cars.

K-C Raceway does not have sprints scheduled for 7/12. I think the track may not even be running at all that night.

Your right, ever since Jim Nier got tied in with the Outlaws schedule, K-C takes that night off. However, I'll be willing to bet that outside a few guys, most of their regulars will go elsewhere that night. It seems as though someone like Skyline, Muskingum, etc. has a sprint show on that date.

Here's a question... why in god's holy name would ANYONE want hotlaps to start later... More time for drinking and screwing off? Is the weather here in tropical Ohio too much? Or is it the thought that track conditions will be better... I hope it's not the that one, the track has been better the last few years... the year Jason Sides won is the most idiotic thing I have ever seen, second only to the HBO PJ Chesson won... they are always trying to keep it dry slick and that won't change no matter what time they start... cushion + 150 mph = sprint cars in orbit somewhere over the turn 1-2 lake.

As for the car count I'd expect it to be pretty healthy... it's been up the last couple of years, you're going to have some randoms like Donnie Krietz who is going to be racing along with any of the other former champs that might be entered (read possibly Sammy). It's not an All Star race but hopefully most of those guys will be there... What always boosts the car count is if the mid-level guys like Paul May, Ryan Myers, the SOD guys out of Michigan come race... it's on Lance Dewease schedule... the car count seemed up for Speedweeks last week so that's a good sign. I'd say the 50-55 number will be pretty accurate. Sadly, the Ohio guys don't defend the home turf like the Posse and it hurts Eldora not having a weekly program. While it may not pay the best (B-C Mains) you gotta race the best to get better... any driver can get an early qualifying spot, qualify somewhere between 25-36, start on the front row, and get a jump... the 6 car inversion opens it up... there's always some random cars in the Kings Royal... starting 23 in the Kings Royal gotta be better than running 2, hell 1st at Skyline on a weekly show doesn't it...

I wish Earl still did Eldora's track prep.

Bahdub, some good points, some I agree with, especially your first one. I doubt a later start time would have as much bearing on the track as some think. What time should they start hot laps - 9pm. No one starts that late and even if it were not televised, some people (not me) like to get home at a decent hour. Back to the car count reasoning - I agree with most of what you say, but I think the drivers/owners don't use the same logic at Eldora as they do at other places. Yes - to get better you have to race against the best. But's lets be honest with ourselves here, no matter how good of driver you are or aspire to be, if you don't have top notch equipment at Eldora, you don't stand much of a chance. To improve at Eldora it takes a lot of track time, but even that won't bring you instant success. All-Star drivers like Wilson and Smith have a million laps at Eldora, but have not fared well at all when the Outlaws come to Eldora. Their teams are well funded from a regional perspective, but not to the level of the Outlaws. If TS and staff want a bigger car count, the quickest way to get it would be to beef up the payout in the C and B Main.

At later start time sure as hell couldn't HURT the track conditions. Besides, I enjoy my racing at NIGHT, under the lights. Last year the heats were completed before sundown....a little ridiculous in my mind. Like many others in attendence, this is a vacation for me....it's not like the race needs to be over by 9:30.

To each his own....I prefer my racing under the lights, not under the SUNlight!

As for the drinking....the only way we could drink more in OH is if they added more than 24 hours to the day!

hey rocket scientists...look at the position of the sun in the sky at 6pm in Darke County!

the KR party is not the reason a dozen of us spend several hundred $ each in the western Ohio economy and 9 hours on the road each way to get there...but it is the only consolation prize since the Earl Baltes magic was replaced with Tony's 6:15 dust storm.

record the down time during the event and factor that into a later (sundown) start time and you will see a similar end time with all the associated pissing around we have seeen in the last few years.

6:00 at the western edge of the eastern time zone is ridiculous.

Car Count- I would asume that it will be like normal, 50-55, but just maybe there will be a few more. It would be nice.

Start Time- I wouldn't mind seeing it start later just so it isn't over before dark. It is a vacation for alot of people so who cares if they race until 12. It does kind of suck when the race is over a 10 and it was only dark for the a-main. At the speedweek race they were pushing off and it was still light out. Atleast I think it was i was feeling pretty good.

Now that I think about it, lets all just shut up and enjoy whats going to be a great week of racing. Just pray for blue skies all week.

OK, OK - I agree 6pm is too early. 7pm is probably about right for hot laps. In the Earl era, 6:30 hot laps and 8pm race time. Different, but not a lot. But, I'll give you that one. With that said, I would agree 100% that the track has been toooo dusty for the past year. Not sure why that is, I've been there a lot - not just for the KR each year and with the exception of a few races (Prelude, Speedweek to name a few) its just too dam dusty. Yea, yea, yea its a dirt track. Trust me, I expect dust, but I do like to see the track in order to enjoy the race. On another note, which PA guys might we see, other than Kreitz? I assume S. Smith,. I long for those glory days when the PA guys all came over.

Pray the track is worked REGULARLY during the week and a nice late afternoon shower wouldn't be all bad, BRR is 100% with all his thoughts on this weekend. PPV would be a nice option for those with other things to do that day, I've had my movie fix for this decade. Take It Easy....

One thing we all forgot to mention was how wonderful it is to watch the watertruck after every set of races and watching the track be dug up at least once during the night... it flakes off as soon as the first race after the water truck is out there... more water the day of would probably allow a later start time and still allow everyone to get out of there at a reasonable time...

On another Eldora topic...

Has anyone noticed since Tony took over everything is a giant pain in the ass... Everytime I go there is something different, like you can only enter through this gate and leave through that one, then the next time it's a different gate... they moved the where you buy the line-ups about 10 times... trying to buy a pitpass is more difficult as they never have enough lines open... i definitely think Eldora lost some of that regular joe appeal... I am an attorney so I sure some of the "improvements" are for liability purposes... but there's a difference between limiting liability and poor customer service...

now the new fence and ESPECIALLY the additional bathrooms are wonderful... but it's definitely less fan friendly...
