Qualified 3rd. Started 6th in heat finished 2nd. Started 6th in main got up to second, then struggled to pass the leader and fell back to 4th. Worked his way back to second & passed the leader with a high side last corner pass for the win.

Now I'm not a big fan of Sprints and Midgets on asphalt but was sick and tired of being a indoor prisoner to the smokey air in Northern California. I had to to get out and take in some good outdoor entertainment. With most of my favorite drivers down in Tulare and not wanting to make that drive for a one day show I decided to take in the USAC show at Altamont.
I was shocked by how small the crowd was there. Only the top two rows of the grandstand was full and I say full pretty loosely. I wasn't disappointed in the racing though. I have been looking for an excuse to see the youngsters Nick Recino and Shane Golobic in action. What better then on one of the self proclaimed fasted 1/2 mile asphalt tracks in the country and less then an hour drive from our home to boot.
Overall the racing was pretty darn entertaining but I have to say I was mostly blown away by the Mopar Western Midgets Car Series. What a competitive bunch! Seeing those midgets blast around that half mile was just awesome. The move Shane Golobic made to take the win on the last turn in the Midget feature was nothing less then spectacular. This kid has that special thing. I will be following his career a little more closely now.
Will I be returning to Altamont? If the track is still in business and there isn't a talent rich dirt sprint car race around, you can bet I will.
