Some are predicting $7.00 a gallon for gas by 2011 and my question too you is, what will that do to you and what will that do to your racing or attending races?

I went back on the promise I made to myself and my family six years ago where I would never do work for another series again and now I am doing NCRA stuff. I love attending big special events at tracks wherever they may be.

However, if the gas price gets to even $5.00 a gallon, I am afraid my attending races and covering them will be over as food and clothing is important. It may also come to the point where there will be no heat or air conditioner at the house and some series lifestyle changes.

And you?

We are just struggling to race now, as a matter of fact we won't race to-night, Peters is bringing his car down. That little tumble last month was about a $7000 hickey. Metnanol is still going up, oil is higher, getting to & from the track is higher. It's tough. I would say if gas goes to $7.00 we probably will not race next year, because every component will go up due to increased production, shipping costs etc. It,s just not real promising!!

$7 a gallon while plausible in 2011 is a little bit of an overexaggerated figure by some speculators.

Fact is, oil is in the middle of a correction. Something it needed to do a long time ago if you ask some people. While I am bias because I am in the oil industry, I hopefully can explain the reason it won't get past $5 a gallon.

1. China

2. India

3. 3rd world countries

All 3 above cannot afford to continue at the rate they are growing w/ oil barrells selling for any more than probably $200 a barrell. Even at $140 a barrell which they are paying now they will have to slow down their industrialization of their countries. Remember, gas cost pretty much the same wherever you go, not including taxes.

More than likely, I would guess that gas will peak at around $5-5.50 per gallon then slowly move back towards $3-3.50 a gallon here pretty soon.

Fact is we have to slow down on how much oil we are consuming here real soon. Oil production will probably peak anytime from now to 30 years from now. So sometime in the very near future we have to cut back on how much we use.

I can say that we will be alright energy wise because of Nuclear technologies, but the not in my backyard mentality will have to eventually slow down.

We will eventually have to tap into ANWAR and the Gulf Coast Regions(before China does through Cuba).

This excuse that a lot of congress and senate members mostly of the Democrat party are using as a reason to not try to advance our energy independence has constantly been that it won't help today, and it will barely help tomorrow. Which if you ask me is a bunch of BS.

Luckily by 2011 Chevrolet will have the Volt coming out that will get 150mpg, which means that shortly after they will apply this technology to larger vehicles. There are actually 5 ton trucks out there already that are hybrids that get over 20 mpg diesel.

Technology will change.

Besides, if we have to we can always tap into the 3 trillion barrels of oil we have in the Oil Sands in Colorado.(not profitable to produce unless oil was over something like $75 per barrell)

Now David asked if I would be racing in 2011 if gas was $7 a gallon. Hell yeah I will be. I just will probably only be racing at Creek County.

48 while you bring good points and all. What makes you so sure that China and India will stop? Yea it is in their best interest to stop growing. Someone said once before these two conutries are now getting what Americans have grown to enjoy in thier everyday life.

I have changed my driving habits to include car-pooling to work & it has helped me a LOT. I also keep a list on a pad of things to stop & get. We split the week,I drive 3 days/eves a week & he drives the other 3. About twice a week we stop at Hell-mart to take care of buying stuff, since its on the way. Its nice to be in your own vehicle all time but it has really helped on saving miles on the vehicles too. I am saving over 26 miles a day. That dont sound like much but do the math, thats 600 less miles a month,7200 for the year.

The Chinese and Indian government will be able to afford to continue growing at a slower pace. The citizens will not be able to live an US type of suburban live. Everything will be large cities cramped w/ millions living close to work, food, and play while they will still have large sections of rural areas to produce food.

The Chinese & Indian's especially as of lately have been rapidly leaning towards the Western style of living but it won't be on the same aspect as ours until they learn how to feed the 10+ billion people that they will have in 10 years.

The reasons above is what is putting fear in speculators and anyone in the oil industry because everyday they get bigger and have more children who need more food, which in turn takes more trucks or more fuel to transport + bigger demand for electricity etc....

Fact is, we already know what we have to do to carry on our lifestyles.

1. Go all renewable Power - Primarily Nuclear

2. Better Fuel Economy w/ transportation - more economic vehicles or mass transit.

3. We still have to exploit every area we can for oil while using up the Arabian, Mexican, Venezualen Oil we can.

Currently I believe we get more oil from Canada then any other nation w/ Mexico being a close 2nd. We barely produce any oil for ourselves which in the long run will be beneficial, But we still have to be prepared for the future.

Already stopped. Getting thing together to have a big garage sell. We are planning now to buy a pontoon boat. Family fun time for less cost. More bang for the buck.

That's my Opinion and I'm stick'en to it.

Get a decent one. My family had one a long time ago that took 20 gallons to take it to the middle of the lake and back.

My Father told me something I will never forget when I was growing up

"There are only 2 days you are happy w/ a boat or an RV. The 1st one is the day you buy it. The 2nd one is the day you sell it."

When I was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. I had a fourty feeter, cabin. Loved it. This time I looking at pontoon boats. They have realy come along way. And they have more room. Last week I was in Biloxi. Rented one. Family had a blast. Spent all day and only use 6 gals of gas. So. that's why racing is out. for me.
