Joey Batts set for competition this Friday in Watsonville

By Gary Thomas

Watsonville, CA – June 25, 2008…BK Motorsports crewman Joey “Batts” Bataglia is geared up and ready to get behind the wheel of a 4-Banger this Friday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. Batts is scheduled to compete aboard the red No. 2 4-Banger, which is one of the Ocean Speedway house cars.

Batts spent last week at the 37th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup helping out the Alviso Rock No. 29 driven by good friend Bud Kaeding and looks forward to dicing it up this Friday in Watsonville. “I had a good time at the Dirt Cup as I always do, but am looking forward to racing the 4-Banger this weekend,” he said.

The 43 year-old San Jose resident was also featured on the front page of the sports section last Friday in the Skagit Valley Times and is expected to bring quite a crowd to the Ocean Speedway this weekend. Golden State Challenge Series competitor and Ocean Speedway regular Evan Suggs was excited about seeing Batts compete this weekend. “Watching Joey run should be a show in itself,” Suggs said.

Batts’ main goal for this Friday is to have fun like it always is. “I just like to have a good time and meet new people whenever I’m at the track. I’m ready for Friday and then after that hopefully we can go and win in Tulare with Bud,” he concluded.

The front gate at the Ocean Speedway will open at 4:30 pm on Friday and adult tickets cost $15. Also in competition during the night will be the Wright One Construction 360 Winged Sprint Car Series, which is led by Bud Kaeding who Batts crews for during the year. “If there’s one thing I know for sure it’s that Joey will be on the Hammer this Friday,” the two-time Silver Crown Champ said.
