My thoughts exactly! From the very beginning of the night we were saying - skip the intermission, run the ASCS A feature, the the Champ A Feature then save the Factory Stocks until last. We drove from Lawton for nothing. What a waste of money! Typical Lanny - stretch out the intermission to make more concession money trying to compensate for the dismal crowd!

I'm sure Gary Owens is thinking the samething. He had that thing dialed in. I think he went from 5th to 1st in a lap in a half before being taken out by good ol' mother nature.
I was thinking the samething, Lanny got the heats in and all of a sudden a long intermission, but they did say it will be a double feature night in August when they come back. That should be a good show. I too drove up from Lawton, but seeing how it was the first time I have seen a sprintcar in about a month, I'm not too disapointed. Got to see some good racing before the flood gates opened.

How many ASCS cars were there? I guess the storm lab was right in this prediction.

Yes, the double feature in August is the reason for the long intermission in my opinion. He already had our money tonight - now he hopes to draw in a bigger crowd in August for the double feature.

exactly. its hard to get through a friday night without lanny screwing something up. he wasn't just compensating for the smaller crowd - but the much reduced number of cars as well. 27 ascs sprints and 22 champs are cool - but 11 factory stocks? i mean if lanny can't find a way to get more cars - then he needs/needed to run 4 classes tonight/and each time ascs is here. every person there saw the same damn thing - if not for the intermission - we might have gotten done. we may not - its hard to say considering cautions and stuff.
the screwy part is that when they have this makeup ascs feature - on august 15th - its going to most likely suck. tonight the track was awfully racy and muti-grooved. well if you have an ASCS race right after hot laps - what do you think the track will be like? probably heavy with not a lot of passing. o well screw it nothing can be done about it. but when will they make up the champ sprints?

Well if you saw my post on the Becker issue and the points I posted right from the sfs website there is a correlation between the post and what happened last week.
I was thinking that about 25 ASCS cars would show up tonight. I did not go tonight b/c of money reasons and I was thinking that there was going to be some rain coming in.

These are the type of Friday nights I am almost glad to have to be at work instead of the race track.

well you didnt really miss anything catpup. you'll pay 15 to go in august. to see the same show that in the end - we payed 30 to see. for anyone not there tonight - it is quite a deal. same goes for whenever they make the champ sprint feature up.
will it still be 15 for that august show? it will be screwed up if it is any more than that.............

I don't think good ol Lanny makes anything off the concessions at SFS. I believe the State Fair Board controls that. But leave it up to Lanny to drag things out when there is a low car count in attempt to make the people who purchased grandstands tickets feel like they got their monies worth by keeping them at the track for the alloted time it takes to run a full show.
In reality the fans are the ones who lose, they have to pay an extra 5 bucks to see less racing than a regular weekly show.
Why not keep the Grandstand admission the same as a regular weekly show. Maybe then more of the racers who had the night off would show up with their families to enjoy, and help put butts in the seats instead of having Butts in the office.

They HAD to have an intermission. The ASCS heats were last and they were the only class with a B-feature. They had to give those drivers and crews an opportunity to work on the cars, get them fueled up, etc. I hate it as much as anyone because i finally got my car to work tonight and was having a blast out there, but they needed to have the intermission unfortunately.

i see what you are saying BS - but I think they coulda ran the factory A - the ASCS B Main - the champ sprint A - and then the ASCS A. that coulda sped things up quite a bit. Uncle A - if you're right - then i could understand it. b/c that makes fair board happy campers when ol' lanny has his hot dog break. i'm sure he gets a cut - so he be doin it for not just his own benefit - but to make the #'s better for the fair. i bet they don't like nights like in past when they would ahve 4 heats or 3 stacked ones and 4 b's and 4 a's. if the fair gets a large cut outta the concessions - then you could almost bet they wouldn't like it. i'm fine with lanny's hot dog break - but dam it when there is rain swirling around and we dont have that much racin left - and the track is in great shape like it was - shoulda sped things up some.
now instead of 2 sprint car features on that good track we had tonight - both ascs when they are back and the others champ sprint a will be ran probably to start the night - and the track won't be near as good. but i aint gonna get too offended by that - he just shoulda tried a lil harder to get it done. Lanny keeps doing things in such a way that leaves a real sour impression on his drivers - and many of the long time fans of state fair speedway. he just needs to step up. because it is appearing to more and more folks that he just dont care. and many see what hoping for the best did for lawton
but - hopefully we can get some more cars next friday - the champs are off and that sucks balls. by the time they are back - weather permitting it will be a full month until they have run an a main. I think it would be a wise promoting move if he dispelled the notions that fans have gotten. and prove people like me wrong.....it would be better for everyone and metro area dirt track racing would be better for it. to be able to sustain quality racing like we have against a struggling economy on the verge of recession - will probably take as good a promoter as possible. i dont care if he is the best - but with him at the helm at the premier track in the state - i do care if he is the worst.
sorry - i just keep bangin away and hijacking the thread. i am sorry. on the bright side - the ascs b feature was pretty good. the heats were ok - better than usual at sfs. had a pretty good time up until the rain came..........was really lookin forward to both sprint car features - the track was good and made for some good racing. i do think it is sad that i dont look forward to ascs shows anymore - its paying more and seeing less. aint ascs fault at all. they put on great racing. but only running 2 classes with it is weak. i think most agree that 10 dollar weekly shows are better than the 15-20 dollar ascs shows. i think if lanny would always run 4 classes when they were here - the difference may not be so profound. he really needs to rethink runnin only 3 classes especially when the factory stocks are one of em. he dont need to wait till next year to inroduce sport mods. within 3 weeks - i bet the sport mods would get more than the factorys.
damn it there I go AGAIN! I am done!

On the champ sprints, will it be a complete restart or will they start where they left off on lap four. Personally we hope they start on lap four. I hope everything goes well the first feature so everyone gets to race the second one.

It's usually a single file restart from where they ended the race.

At least after this coming Friday and excluding when the ASCS guys are here, both sprint classes will run for 6 straight weeks.
JMO but shouldn't the sprint classes and the mods run every Friday night and swap the other 2 divisions every Friday night? Any opionions?

I've never done anything every weekend that i hated so much so i don't know why you'll keep going back and giving Lanny more of your money if it's that bad. I'm sure we will see you next weekend, giving Lanny more of your money. and for all of you "know it alls" lets see one of you try and buy a race track and run it, now that would be funny!
