Shuman Scores in ASCS Canyon Region's Weiler Salute to Indy!
Lonnie Wheatley, PHOENIX, Ariz. (May 24, 2008) – Casey Shuman captured his second Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region feature win of the season by topping Saturday night's 51-lap Arizona Race Mart Wayne Weiler Salute to Indy atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval.
Shuman had to work for the $2,000 triumph, racing from the eighth row outside to take command midway through the feature event and then racing to the checkered flag aboard Rex Foster's Allstate Utility Construction No. 32 Maxim.
Shuman was chased to the line by 17th-starter Jeremy Sherman, who maintained the series points lead with a runner-up finish. Josh Pelkey climbed from eighth to finish third, with Bob Ream, Jr., and Charles Davis, Jr., rounding out the top five.
R.J. Johnson raced from 19th to sixth, with Jeremy Reagles, Mike Leslie, 18th-starter Mike Colegrove and 21st-starter Stevie Sussex completing the top ten.
Mike Martin, Davis, Nick Aiuto and Bryan Swinehart topped heat race action, with Sherman winning the "B" Main. Martin also won the Trophy Dash.

Nice job Lil' Shu on the win!
But, can someone explain how Casey got into the Main when he didn't transfer out of his heat and was not listed as even being in the B Main? Maybe a typo or was he a promoter's option?

ASCS uses a passing point system. The top 16 in points are in the feature from the heat races with the remaining cars going to the Semi. Casey was 16th in points.
