"symptoms of a stroke" for Kennedy. I guess his blood isn't as thin as it used to be.
Jimmy Mars changed his plans at the last minute to run Shawno due to his son's illness. (bacterial menengitis according to a post on another message board) First of all I hope his son gets better soon, but then I gotta assume that this show is a lesser show than the 2 10k to win shows he was orginally planning on in Farley IA and La Salle IL. What is the sanction/payout/competition up there in WI tonite? I gotta assume that he is in a class all by himself up there.

it's some Rumble Dirt Series. it pays $1000 to start and $10,000 to win. lets see, the best guys appeared to be Steve Laursen, some Fegers guy, and to be honest, i'm not familiar with too many of them.

LOL
That "some Fegers guy" is the 2007 WDRL champion. They also had some of the best late model drivers in the Midwest on hand. Pat Doar (multiple WISSOTA national champ, Challenge Series Champ), John Kaanta (multiple WISSOTA national champ, Challenge Series champ, 2007 WDRL RoY finished 2nd to Fegers), Jeff Wildung (defending Challenge Series Champ, Terry Anvelink, Nick Anvelink, Joel Cryderman, etc....
just a few nobody's and some guy named Jimmy Mars. LOL
Before I get ripped on I'm just messing with ya. I LOVE the late models but in the same breath I LOVE my sprint cars as well. If I could hit a track three nights a week that served up both varieties I'd be there in a heart beat. I'll never understand why some people see such a big difference in the two. Good racing is good racing and it's hard to beat no matter what brand it is...as long as it's on dirt.

Fegers, Kaanta and the rest are fairly good shoes, no doubt about it. But the competion was definataly easier there than in Farley and LaSalle's Lucas Shows with Birky, Moyer, Miller, etc. I am sure it was a wise business decision to pass up 2 10k/700 shows to race a single 10k/1k show closer to home....but business probably had very little to do with the decision.
The important thing is that his son must be getting better if Jimmy decided to race at all.
I cna't believe a late model post has been up for over 6 hours now without someone reminding us this is a sprint car message board!

He once drove a '67 Olds 88 for Mary Jo Kopechne back in '69 but that relationship was rather short lived.

When he had a stroke or whatever he had this time, they just should have left him there, gone home and gone to sleep and maybe call
someone to report a problem when they get up in the morning. Oh, wait, now I remember, that's what he did with Mary Jo.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Jimmy would have his hands full against the Wissota Late Model guys. Cryderman, Doar, Justin Fegers, Steve Laursen (son of the late Russ Laursen sprint car driver) and others. Jimmy used to run weekly at Cedar Lake and other tracks against those guys and they're all tough to beat.

That isn't always the case and it's not a given that Mars is going to win every time he shows up. Trust me, I used to watch Jimmy race locally and I've been watching all these guys for years. Mars is an excellent driver but Kaanta, Doar, Cryderman, Fegers, Matthees, all of these guys are excellent racers as well. You've heard of Jimmy because he got some sponsorship along the way and raced on a national level but he'd tell you the same thing about how competitive the weekly programs are up here. Heck, last night I went to Cedar Lake and there were 29 Late Models running the weekly show in spite of the Rumble going on over in Shawano. Add to that there were two other Late Model weekly shows going on within 150 miles and you can see how popular they are.
We've had some great Sprint drivers from this area but most of the weekly shows are Late Model. Brady Smith is another one who used to race locally and it now part of team Bloomquist running Scott's cars.
As a Sprint fan I wish it were the opposite, that there were that many weekly Sprint shows and the Late Models ran specials. But when in Rome some weekends I've either got to drive hundreds of miles to see Sprints (gets pricey) or settle for fenders. At least the Late Model shows are some of the best weekly racing anywhere and I got to offset it with a USAC Midget race on Friday night.

Jimmy Mars after last nights win.
"All the WISSOTA guys, I don't think they get the credit (they
deserve). If you look at the all the guys that have come out of WISSOTA
and went on to do other things in open-style racing, they've all been
competitive and had successful stuff," Mars said. "These guys that run
around here are pretty good. They run as good as anybody."

Whoda thunk that I'd see a USAC Midget race, an excellent Late Model Feature at Cedar and defend the Wissota boys under a Ted Kennedy post on the same weekend? You can't predict something like that can ya' Donn?
