So, according to a note in this morning's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Danny Lasoski has elected to NOT race in PA due to "struggling".....his words....

Look for DUDE at Knoxville and Husets almost every weekend (pending some sponsor $). Gas prices and lack of funding are the cause for not running the WoO.

Wow, this is big news...but I can't say that it's too big of a surprise. With the fact that the WoO sprints do way more traveling than any other racing series, they haven't increased the purses in decades, expenses keep going up, and gas prices being so high now too, I'm surprise there are as many cars on the tour full-time as there are. Danny hasn't had a great season so far, so why not concentrate on Knoxville, hit some of the WoO shows when they're nearby, and be ready for them when the come in for the Nationals?

Just a guess here but I'd say the sponsors on the WoO cars are acquired contingent on their on-car and on-hauler advertising being seen at a variety of venues nationwide and on SPEED TV coverage. Since Dude doesn't have such an agreement he can run where he wants - i.e. locally. Again - just a semi-educated guess...

Forbrook is smart at reading race tracks then making his cars fast. It looks to me like he's just as smart at reading weather forecasts. I'd wager he is less behind (or further ahead) financially than any Outlaw owner on the tour. No one's fault, but this weather and fuel situation has to be killing the coast to coast travellers.

A one day show is some 58,000 or so. How many promoter would pay out 60,000 to 70,000 for a one day show or 125,000 to 150,000 for a two day show just so the racer can have more money! I love sprint car racing but that would mean some fifty to sixty dollar for a pit pass if not more. Corporate sponsorship does not want to be in this type of racing even with TV. Teams have decisions to make. Race locally and lose money or run national and lose money. There could be a few more team falling off before long.

The WoO have a lot of teams right now. It is inevitable that some will fall off the tour as they get pushed out of the tow money, or miss A-mains. Fuel prices are brutal!!
