Bonus money up for grabs to winged sprint car drivers during May 25th Salute to Indy at Tulare Thunderbowl
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – May 12, 2008…With the second annual Salute to Indy featuring the USAC/CRA sprint cars coming up on May 25at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, a nice bonus will be up for grabs to winged sprint car drivers who shed their wings and compete during the night.
KRC Safety Equipment and Sharp Insurance, both of Visalia, will be putting up $500 each which will be paid out to the top four regular winged sprint car drivers who take the wings off for the event. Both parties are huge and loyal sprint car fans who want nothing more than to see as many winged sprint car drivers as possible compete at the Salute to Indy.
The payoff for the money to the top four highest finishing winged regulars will be $400 to the top finisher, $300 to the second, $200 to the third and $100 to fourth. The Salute to Indy last year saw a very successful inaugural event at the Thunderbowl and this year is expecting to be every bit as good when the wingless 410’s invade the 1/3 mile clay oval on Sunday night May 25.
Reserved tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling (559) 688-0909. For a seating chart and more info on the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway log onto http://www.thunderbowlraceway.com

Great idea, kudos to the promoters at the famous Thunderbowl in Tulare. However, I have a bit of a concern over the race there on the 25th. As I am a loyal supporter of the USAC/CRA sprint cars, and I enjoy going to the Thunderbowl when they race there, I am worried that the car count for the USAC/CRA guys is going to be low. The past out of town events, (away from so-cal), that USAC/CRA has run have seen considerable low car counts, and it has me second guessing my decision to make the trip up to Tulare. I love the Thunderbowl, as I think it is one of the best dirt-track venues in all of California, but I am unwilling to go if the regular USAC/CRA big guns are not going to show. I guess what I'm trying to say is give the USAC/CRA guys some incentive as well. To see some of the GSC's best shed the wings, and go head to head with the likes of Cory Kruesman, Tony Jones, and Mike Spencer is a highly entertaining prospect. Question Gary? Have you posted this same article on the So-Cal board? Maybe if the regular USAC/CRA guys know what is potentially going down, they will make the trip and make this event that much better. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the info Gary, that is some great news.

Last year I believe we had around 25 cars for this race and hopefully we can get at least that many this year, if not more. I will post it on the So Ca board too, thanks!
