Bud Kaeding motors on to another top 5 with GSC

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…Campbell’s Bud Kaeding continued his recent string of consistency on Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway and picked up yet another top five finish with the Golden State Challenge Series. The result marks Kaeding’s fifth top five with the traveling 410 series in the last six events and he continues to show improvement as the weeks go on.

Although not a win the 28 year-old had one his most exciting runs of the season at the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial as he put on a show charging around the high-scary side of the speedway aboard the BK Motorsports, Kaeding Performance Maxim. Lining up sixth in the 30 lap feature he immediately set the car to the top and drove around the second row starters in exciting fashion to carve his way up to third.

After about four laps Kaeding would get loose up top and fall back to around sixth, but began to regroup and sliced back into fifth on a lap seven restart. The two-time and defending USAC Silver Crown champ continued to work the high line trying to get everything possible out of the car and as the laps ticked off he started to make some noise. Following a restart on lap 22 Kaeding shot around Craig Stidham to claim fourth and then proceeded to close in on father Brent for a podium spot.

With just five laps remaining in the race Bud utilized a beautiful move to get around Brent and put the Alviso Rock, K & N Filters No. 29 into third, but a caution shortly thereafter neglected the pass. The final laps of the feature saw him get back by Brent for third at one point before losing the spot and battling it out with Craig Stidham over the final couple laps. Kaeding lost traction and Stidham was able to get by and relegate him back to fifth, which is where he would go on and finish at the checkered flag.

Although he would have like to get on the podium it was a great run nonetheless as Kaeding looked as good as he's had the last couple season's with the wing on, showing no fear running up against the fence on the racy surface. The Campbell driver also competed on Friday night aboard the Werbach Motorsports No. 20 sprinter and brought home a fourth place finish in the main event at the Ocean Speedway. He’ll return to the cockpit of the 20 machine next Friday for another 360 point race before heading to Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway for the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.

Saturday’s 18th annual event will be packing much prize money as it’s the most lucrative one night stop on the Golden State Challenge Series schedule. The annual race pays tribute to Dave Bradway Jr. who lost his life at Skagit’s Dirt Cup in 1987. The Bradway Memorial will mark GSC Round 12 and every event during the night will have something special attached to it. As of now fast time will pay an amazing $1,200 to win on Saturday courtesy multiple people who have put the extra money up. In addition to that heat race prizes will be given out from Hoserville, lap money has been gathered by Dave & Diane Durica and a $500 bonus to the hard charger in the main event has been put up by Dan Simpson. All in all it should make for a can't miss night of racing.

Kaeding drove the BK Motorsports No. 29 to a 10th place finish a couple Friday’s ago at Silver Dollar Speedway and will look to improve on that night during the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. Please stop by the rig after the races and check out our new T-shirts. For more pictures and news log onto

Gary Thomas, I don't mean this to sound critical of your work because your race reporting and public relations work involving several drivers is top notch, but come Sunday morning I have a difficult time finding the results of a race on Saturday night. This post is a good example. I like Bud Kaeding very much and think he is a fine driver. But sifting through the posts on this board, I was looking for the results from Tulare and discovered that B.K. finished in the top five after reading this post first. I later found your post about the race and Tyler Walker's win. I only ask that you hold your reports on individual drivers for a day or two so that the Saturday night results can be found more easily (I am getting older and my eyes are beginning to wear out). Anyway Gary this is by no means meant to be critical of your work as I am a big fan of your reporting and will continue to be in the future. I think you provide us race fans with very interesting insights into Northern California sprint car racing. And for that I am very much appreciative. A fan.

Bob Davidson, Bellflower, CA.

Hey thanks man and no problem. What I will do for now on is label the actual race story and results by the name of the track and put it in capital letters so it will be easy to pick out. That should make it easy to find for the eyes. Smile
