Random stuff ...
* Too bad about the track being too wet -- not much racing. Don't know the first thing about track prep so I'll leave that topic to others, but it sure was a bummer. Looked about ready for racing when the ASCS A feature ended.
* Brought with me six people from the OU Athletics Department (you're welcome, Mr. Edwards), including three first-timers. We tailgated with an itty-bitty charcoal grill in the south parking area and were told by fairgrounds security that we couldn't have the grill. Of course, the coals, all 10 of them, were gray by then so we decided not to waste the hot dogs, but how many places in America prohibit tailgating and grilling before a sporting event? This was NOT track personnel so I want to be clear on that front, but wow. Everyone that was with me sees a fair amount of tailgating around our place, and they handled the security officer well, but were shocked. The officer was real good about it too -- just doing his job. Just surprised by the policy. The first-timers loved the sprinters and will be back -- guess we'll have to bring a gas grill from now on, if that's permitted. And by the way, we've tailgated up there three times now -- we're getting tired of doing it alone.
* Gang, there's truly nothing better dirt track racing. It's awesome. Bad track and all, there is no other place I would have wanted to be.
* That car count was the first time I got nervous as a race fan about the fuel prices impacting racing. Correct me if I am wrong, but was that not the smallest count we've seen for the National Tour in some time? I'm not complaining about 26 cars, just thought it was low compared to what we've seen from that tour in the past. Kudos to Jason Sides for coming down after an Outlaws rain out in the KC area. Love that racer's spirit.

Good points and observations and information. Wish I could say more but no cookouts on a paved parking lot? Give me a break.
This country had better wake up. We think the fuel prices are bad now, it isn't even summer yet and we got race teams struggling and people struggling on traveling. And that is not counting the back and forth trips to and from work every single day.
Yes, nothing like dirt track racing (sprint car racing) to help get your mind off of the everyday crap that goes on in ones life.

Hey great to hear some of collegues came with you 5can. That's great!! And glad to hear they'll be back.
Too bad about the grill chill you guys got. Kinda wierd and cheesy rule.
I agree and told pickard, who didn't go, the same thing about the track this morning. What a mess. I hate tracks like that. Not much racing even with the reds and yellows. I bet the engines in them suckers took a beat'n last night. Not to mention the chassis also.

Mossman that all echoes my thoughts exactly. There was a crapload of stuff I was disappointed with - but there is no other place I'd rather be on a friday night. cool folks to talk to, some racin to see to boot. I'm more worried about the Sooner Region shows. anyone notice we had NO Sooner Region cars there last night. so many that we used to see just aint comin no more. Passmore, Skip Wilson, McClelland, Kolt Walker not there, no Micheal Brown, Sherman David, Gavin Punch, George White or Swofford Teammate Trey Robb. seriously yall just look at past results for ascs at SFS - - - seriously do it. so many just aint comin. If Lanny get keep the 3 stock car classes counts high - we have enough sprinters in the area to keep providing decent shows.
But it really makes me wonder about the Sooner Region shows, Sprint Bandits, and National Tour Speedweek. I mean hell Mossman is right - there isn't anything wrong with 26 sprinters............I guess we/I are just so spoiled by being used to seeing many many more.
Was I alone in the belief that the best race of all last night was the Pro Stock A Main? Better than ANY other race by a mile. After the last yellow when the top 4 were all runnin right there lookin to make some moves - that was pretty cool.

Yeah,12 I agree about the Pro Stock Main. Was great racin there and was real good there at the last 5 laps to go. Congrats Eric Brill for his firat A feature win. That was cool seeing the Brill Bros racing for the win at SFS on Fri Nite Then they go run the track at Meeker on Sat nights ........

I enjoyed seeing Katyrne Minter win the "B", only to find out later she'd been DQ'd. Thought the Pro Stock feature was pretty good show and I think everyone should bring someone with them who's not been before. Unfortunately, I know to many people who only do the Friday night shows and skip the ASCS guys when they are in town.

I think all you whine-bags need to just be grateful we are getting to watch racing. Look at all the rainouts all over the country.
P.S. I am just kidding. The track did suck. It was ready to race on right after the features were done. BUT, seriously, it seems everyone else is raining out and we haven't missed 1 week.

Yeah for real-------think about years past-----there are at least 1 rain out in April and here we are approaching the 2nd Fri in May & I know its a few days away but probably no rainout this week.
I cant ever think of a year where we have gone this far into the season w/o a SFS rainout.

I think it's the law of averages. We were rained out 1,563,974 times last year. The OK and TX area are owed a rain free season.

I do have this question -- after prepping a track so many times, and obviously understanding how the process works, how do you get one that wet?

Guy's you can't be to disappointed with the track as it was way better than last week ,little to heavy but some of us kinda like it wet. Did notice Shouse, D.Jennings, K. Barksdale, Wood, Mcalister, Loyd, Covington were there, all may not be commited to ASCS or Sooner region but are true SOONER racers. The expence is up and the pay is not, keepin some teams away. $300. to start, or from 10th back is not enough for a National race. Sooner region $250. 10th on back not enough. There are other series NCRA, OCRS that pay as well or better, so some teams metioned above are racing with them. Not sure about OCRS, but NCRA pays $450. 10 tru 15, & $400. 15 to 20 , so the extra $200. really helps.
Now i know we sould be more about the top 10 pay but that is more also. And we realize and acept the fact we are not doing it to get rich, just for the love of it. But for enough to pay the expence would be great.
elbows up...stand on it hard.., & get that win!!

I can to be dissappointed. I like dry tracks. Some moisture is ok but it was way to much friday night. I didn't like the frieght train we got with that track either. Didn't see much racing goin on. If you go to see fast cars follow each other around then i guess you loved it.

Yea ok, maybe somewear in the middle would be nice. If it must be dry must have a cushin or two lane, otherwise you just trade the FAST frieght train for a slow one on the bottom. Mud or dust both dirt, gota love it!!
