Mason Moore brings home top five on Miller’s Glass Night
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – May 9, 2008…Consistency is always something for a young driver to shoot for and Princeton’s Mason Moore has found that mark so far this season during point race competition at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Going into Friday nights sixth point race Moore was one of only two drivers to have finished among the top 10 in every event and sat third in the track point standings.
Keeping up the trend the 17 year-old continued that consistency on Friday night and drove the Moore Insurance Services 410 sprinter to a fifth place finish in the final tune-up before the big Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial weekend.
This past Friday nights action was the sixth point race of the Feather Falls Casino season and was sponsored by Miller’s Glass company, which is located in Chico. A little bit shorter of a field was on hand for the evening, but the Silver Dollar Speedway surface continued to produce some very fast laps and drivers were still getting into the 11 second bracket during the main event.
Moore began the night by clocking the twelfth fastest lap in qualifying to put the Rolling Hills Casino, Selover’s Body & Paint No. 22 in the second row of the third heat race. He settled into third on the start, but immediately began to put pressure to the rear of Emily Ramirez. Lap three saw “Primetime” make a sweet move down low in the first corner to claim second where he would go on and finish.
By main event time the surface was still extremely quick and Moore lined up in the fifth row for the 25 lap contest. The first lap saw a melee occur up front however, as second row starters Jason York and Sean Becker got together. This created a complete restart and Moore was able to move up a complete row with both Becker & York out of the picture.
The next start went much smoother and the youngster fell in line sixth and began to try and battle with Willie Croft for the fifth position. Moore ran a smart and smooth race as passing opportunities were limited and brought home a fifth place finish after 25 laps of action aboard the NOS Energy Drink, Platinum Powder Coating, Napa Auto Parts machine. It was a good solid run as we are set to head into one of the biggest weekends of racing all season at the Silver Dollar Speedway bullring this coming Friday and Saturday.
The coming weekend will pay honor to fallen sprint car driver Dave Bradway Jr. who lost his life during a crash at the Skagit Speedway in 1987. Saturday will be the 18th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial and it packs a lot of fun stuff during the night, which is sanctioned by the Golden State Challenge Series. Big money and other goodies are up for grabs all evening long which make it a great event for fans and teams alike. Friday night will also be a regular Silver Dollar Speedway point race.
