When Dave Bradway Jr got upside down in the turn 4 at Calistoga and was upside down in that mess, it was in the 82. The funny part is Dave popped a tire that night, he had to go to the back. They were doing good in the points, and Jack told Dave not to do anything dumb. Just finish and get points. Not Dave's style, he stood on the gas down the back straight and was passing cars, then came to turn 4 and caught a tire and went for the ride. Jack was mad at Dave for what he did, and shortly after that, Dave was let go.

I was a kid when that happend, and I am not discounting Bradway he was hell of a shoe, but I think he went into the pond at Calistoga on a yellow.
But I could be wrong, that is just how the memory plays back for me.
Thanks

Obviously you dont know me! I have been around this sport my whole life. My cousins owned race cars and had some pretty great drivers drive their cars. The names that drove their cars are, Mitch Sue, Rendy Baldreni, Ron and Rick Horton and my all time favorite Dave Bradway Jr, among others. I actually had the privalge of knowing Dave. He loved the ruts. Heck the one at Baylands he was famous for driving right thru that turn one rut.
You want to come at me from a car owners stand point. Show me where racing a sprint car is good business sence? You cant! This sport is a passion!

Wayne Sue was the first to drive this car. i remember the first time it was brought out. Wayne did the shake down at West Capitol on a saturday night points race. it was avery beautiful car.

Actually, "the rut" that I was referring to is kind of a joke between Evan and me regarding his string of 4th place finishes, not anything to do with the track surface at Tulare. Seems to me that the track is the same for all of the competitors.
I agree with John's statement:
"I don't like a perfectly smooth track either when it is not asphalt. The ever changing surface of dirt and a driver's ability to adjust for those changes is what I like about watching dirt track racing in general. I don't care if its a rut, groove or big ole ditch."
Are we having fun yet?

I'm not a driver, or car owner for that matter, but as a fan I believe certain track conditions, like ruts, distinguish tracks from one another. I remember watching a Versus network telecast of a USAC/CRA race at Perris. One of the reporters had the track promoter down in turn one, and they were discussing the ever present rut that always seems to be there. If I remember correctly, the promoter said something to the effect of the hole being unique to Perris, and that if the drivers did not like it, then go race somewhere else. If someone recalls the interview more clearly, please feel free to correct me. I'm just a fan, and I don't have large amounts of cash invested in these cars, but I believe the ruts and ever changing track conditions are what makes the sport fun to watch, it consistently challenges the drivers ability when faced with these conditions; it seems to put more emphasis on the driver and not the equipment.

the ruts do prove who are the men and the boys.if you want the same track all the time go to a indoor kart track.

When Dave Bradway Jr got upside down in the pond, it was in Jack's 82. We were talking about when Dave got upside down in the turn 4 pond. They were recalling someone in a earlier heat race was wearing a new arm restraint and somehow the restraint conected at the belt loop, and somehow threw the driver out of the car. The funny thing was Dave was wearing this same restraint, and he was upside down in the pond, which made it really hard to unbuckle him cause of the restraint. But Dave popped a tire in that race. He went to the pits to get it fixed. Jack told him to just ride around and get points. That wasnt Dave's style. On the back strecht Dave stood on the gas, started passing cars and coming to the green got upside down lol. Jack fired him after that!
