Jason Statler runs 11th at Thunderbowl Raceway
By Gary Thomas
Tulare, CA – April 26, 2008…Los Gatos racer Jason Statler competed at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway for the first time this season on Saturday night and fought through a tough event to score an 11th place finish in the 30 lap Golden State Challenge Series main event. The veteran came into the evening on the strength of a second place finish the weekend before in Petaluma and looked to keep up the momentum from the previous few weeks.
For the second weekend in a row Statler was able to compete during the whole night of racing and make it back without wife Stephanie having the baby. A total of twenty-six winged 410 sprint cars signed in at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday night and were greeted with much warmer and pleasant temps than were seen the week before in Petaluma.
To begin the event the "Big Guy” was only able to muster the 19th fastest lap in qualifying, which caused him to start behind the inversion in his heat race. Lining up seventh in the heat Statler then moved up one spot to finish sixth aboard the DF Rios Construction, Pheasant Run Shopping Center No. 00.
The former King of California started back in the 18th spot for the main event and after 30 laps of hard fought racing he brought the D & D Roofing, Trimble Motorsports Maxim home just shy of the top ten in the 11th spot. It wasn’t the kind of night Statler was looking for, but all you can do is move on to the next race and hope for better things.
With baby Statler expected this week, the “Big Guy” is still planning on running in a pair of 410 sprint car events at two different tracks during the upcoming weekend. Friday night he plans to be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico to compete in his first Feather Falls Casino point event of the season. After the event on Friday the Double Zero team will make the drive to the American Valley Speedway in Quincy to compete with the Golden State Challenge King of California Series.
