I've pondered this Question for over 10 years.According to the spectator response from Sat. nights, the track was well prepared and maintained through out the night, the racers went fast,a lot of passing....so whats wrong with Victorville's regular Sprint Car Program? The shortcoming I can see is the program lacks a Major Series Sponser....if some group or business would step up and help financially assist this promoter develope this program ,this thing could grow and flourish! A small investment,a little effort and we could secure one more good sprint car track in So. Cal.

Ok, I'll bite.

I really enjoyed the show last night. I hope there are many more like it.

To answer your question regarding what's wrong with the track - here are my random thoughts in random order

1. An informal poll in the stands revealed that when it's cold outside, perhaps give some thought to skipping the front stretch lineup pageantry.

2. The track could use another groove. For as wide as the track is, it shouldn't be that hard to pass. Perhaps when working the track over, let the top/middle wear a bit to allow other parts of the track to catch up in speed. Right now it looks hard to pass because it's real fast 3/4 of the way up. Figure a way to slow that down and force the drivers to search.

3. The PA blows.

4. I know some are asking for a scoreboard but I realize scoreboards are expensive. Robert was trying but they need to announce the lap count more often to get a feel for where we are in the race. No mufflers and problem #3 come together in the perfect storm of non-informedness.

5. I hear that you can't see do-dah from the pit area. You might give a little love to those hardworking slobs in the pit area and give them a better viewing area.

6. Related to #5, the pit stands don't look to be in a good place for sprint cars. It doesn't look like it would take much for a car to jump a wheel and end up over there.

7. The armco in turn 1 and to a lesser degree turn 4. I'd like to see a little better protection around the armco since the roll cages in these cars are a little exposed

Now before you get your knickers in a twist, here's what's good about the facility.

1. It's reasonably priced.

2. The staff is enthusiastic. Unlike places where the staff makes you feel like you are imposing on them by giving them your money to use their facility, I never remotely got that feeling at Victorville. Even the security people were nice. Whatever you do, make sure they don't lose that attitude.

3. It's a fast little joint. Fast means action.

4. It's nice to hear sprint cars without mufflers but seeing houses over the backstretch fence makes me worry how much longer that can last. In any case, it's nice to hear them uncorked.

5. Big pit area.

6. No parking fees! When you pay someone for parking, exactly what value do you get for your money?

7. Easy freeway access.

Not much wrong with this place from a racer's perspective either! This track while being pretty darned fast for it's size also happens to be real easy to drive and real forgiving with it's wide surface and high banking. I sure had a lot of fun last night. I had to sit in the car and wait a minute so Evy could come over and tell me I'd lose a lap just for old time sake. Loved it!

Thanks to Gardner and Faas for their promoting efforts and all who helped make the show go on. Thanks also to the Perkins family for the #1 car. What a great bunch of people to race with and real nice folks! Of course thanks to my family for coming out to help and cheer!

Could some sort of agreement be made with Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Coca-Cola or Pepsi to put up a scoreboard.

I had to chuckle a bit when I looked beyond turn one and spotted a sign for a muffler shop.

I went accross the street to the Food-4-Less after the show and was able to get some road munchies. They are open until 1:00AM on Saturday nights.
