I think it is great they are getting a WOO show but how can they justify charging 35-40 bucks!!!! That is way to expensive. I can go to knoxville and watch the nationals for the same price.... I was planning on going but not now.....bummer...

I would guess that you may not be an entrepreneur, thus I will offer some food for thoughts for you.

While I agree that the price may be way too high (what isn't), but you must consider, Knoxville has almost 10 times as much seating as Burlington.

That being said, Knoxville has one advantage over nearly all tracks in the USA.

The track is sort of like being run by a 4H fair, thus considered non-profit.

Being non profit, I am sure their tax rate is lower also.

When you don't pay your favorite uncle (Sam) half of your profit, you don't need to generate as much income.

A pit pass at Pevely was 35 bucks, I think reserved seating was 32.00. If that's going to stop you from going, you didn't want to go too bad. A couple weeks ago I wasted 18 bucks on a terrible show, I would've gladly paid twice that for a GOOD show. I'm hoping it works out where I can go, it's a bit of a drive for me.

34 raceway is an incredibly competitive race track. I am expecting a lot of great racing side by side. I for one can't wait. Jeff and Amy have worked thiers back sides off to make this happen. I'm already trying to decide where to watch from.

I must agree with you Camfab, this could be one of the best things that ever happen for 34 raceways and the fans. The only thing I can see that will be bad is the fans that can not make it will miss one of the best shows on earth. I will be there and I am already hoping for more great shows in the future.

By the way I would like to thank AMY AND JEFF for having the nerve to make all this happen.

GOOD LUCK TO 34 RACEWAYS IN THE FUTURE.

nodust, I'm sure they have there reasons for charging 35-40 bucks, I'm just stating that it is alot of money to see a race. I'm glad that they are trying to get some good shows instead of just running the normal weekly races and hope they continue to do so. Jeff and Amy are doing a great job and I hope great things for them.

I'm sure they will pack the stands with die hard sprint car fans. But being a non-entrepreneur I will not be able to afford to go, maybe you can help me out on that....lol

it is a one time investment that helps me attend a race in the more upper level in price.

I was up all night once and was watching an infomercial and they had this neat fold down ladder that is light weight, and fold-able.

Since I bought this ladder, and carry it in the trunk of my car, I have been able to scale the fencing at over 30 tracks, thus saving the money that I didn't have much of.

I hope you know what I was really saying was that when a joint pays no taxes, and is pretty well run by a large board that does labor projects free, everybody else is at a disadvantage.

I look forward to Burlington, but that will be a HUGE weekend for me.

I also have plans to see my first race at Eagle that same weekend, as well as a trip to Husets for the Inlaws err Outlaws.

I do have a suggestion for you also, and this suggestion is made serious as a heart attack,

I found myself in financial ruin a couple of decades ago, I was finishing up a marriage which broke me, I was truing to start up a couple businesses at the same time also.

To make a long story short, I plain and simple, flat ass could not afford to go to races any longer.

I took on a VOLUNTEER job at the Hall of Fame, donated many hours, never collected (nor would I have accepted) a single dime, but I did get to see the races free (lol, usually a toilet broke about A-Feature time).

I missed races for the weddings of my 2 kids, but other than that, I never missed a night for 17 seasons.

I would venture to guess that darn near any race track in the country would off a similar deal for a race fan the honestly wants to go to the races, and will not have silly excuses for missing a race now and then.

I went to work when I was healthy, but never missed a show because of a couple bouts with stage 4 cancer. I didn't let the fact that my Mother, and my Fathers had funerals the same day or so keep me from doing my job.

Last season, I did announce my retirement from my volunteer job, money will be real tight as I pay off 7 years of debt caused my medical issues, I have found a couple ways of doing things yet however.

I donate or sell cheap, little things to the tracks sometimes in exchange for money to get in free.

I build a few junkie trophies that look like they can from K-Mart according to one poster here last week and the promoter takes sympathy and lets me in at a free or reduced price.

In the words of the smartest race promoter that ever lives, P, Ray Grimes, Win Friends/Influence Racing.

I did't mean this to be a slap in the face to you (or anyone) on the money issue, which to me is a VERY HUGE issue, no attempt to get a pat on the back for something I got more enjoyment out of than anyone, but rather an honest and possible way of seeing races that you may otherwise not be able to attend.

where do you get that ladder from? I might be interested.....lol

Looks like if they charged 100 bucks to get in you would side with the track... I looked on WOO website and then went to other tracks to see what they were charging. Nobody was 40 bucks.... But like I said, I'm sure 34 has there reasons for charging that much.

On another note, if anybody is planning on going, I would just go to the pits, because they are the same price!!! What a deal!!! You can see your favorite drivers working on the cars, you can sit in the bleachers in the pits. Lets pack the pits!!!!! Why not, it only cost 5 bucks more than the cheap seats.

I side with the tracks because they are, many times customers of mine, and they have huge expenses that the fan never sees.

I have never heard a fan quote "little" expenses when they guestimate how much a promoter makes.

I would hate to guess for instance how much Knoxville Raceway spends per year on toilet paper. I have nerver heard that expense mentioned, but I bet you could buy a pretty decent used car for what Knoxville spends .

NOW on the flip side, do not I think the quality of ANY outlaw show justifes the ticket prices, but when they allowed the owners 20 years ago to completly outspend the limits of common sense, brains and good judgement, they can no longer do a show at what it is honestly worth.

Speed is NOT revelent in the quality of a race IMO, I have seen races at Knoxville where 23 second laps were more exciting that the back seat of a car on Prom night, and I have seen 15 second laps that were just plain flat assed boring.

Racing is passing, not following, and by passing, the chance to pass is as important as the success of passing.

Sort of like a steak at a resturant I guess, some Steers are juicy, flame broiled filets of Genuine Black Angus Beef, and some are just plain dead cows.

Only the top two rows are $40 the rest is $35. I'd spend $100 to see them at 34 Raceway cause it's my home town track. I grew up there and watched, raced, and helped at many sprint car races there. To a local sprint car fanatic this show is a dream come true! So thank you 34 Raceway, T-Mac, WoO, and all involved for making one of my dreams to see the world's top sprint car touring series at my home track!

With the purchase of the $40 ticket it also allows you to go to the pit's, and you can still return to your seat in the stands without losing your seat. What a deal!!!! What other track allows you to do this??? It's a "pit combo" ticket!

Let's see if I can explain why they HAVE to charge those prices (please note, these figures are VERY rough estimates).

Track's cost of putting on the show: $120,000 (this is probably really low but close enough). This includes extra personell (including more security, prople to work the food stands, etc.), up-front fees to WRG, purse, higher insurance for the 1 night, more TPwink and other costs not incurred on regular nights.

(Are there reduced prices for kids? I would assume so, but let's forget that for now).

3800 seats X $36 (averaging the higher priced seats in) + 200 pit passes X $40 = $144,800.

That gives the track a profit on paper of $24,800. Throw in another $8,200 for profit on food and beverages, that's a cumulative profit of $33,000. Split between the track, SLS and possibly others....well, you can see there's not a lot of cream to be taken from the top.

Offset this by the possibility of not being able to run the race (weather, acts of God, etc.) where there is only outlay and no income, I don't see where the prices are that unreasonable.

The cost of doing a WoO show is one reason why Eagle's owner/promoter seriously considered never ever having them back. Thanks to a great crowd last year, they are coming in June. No guarantees on next year though. It's just the times in which we live. You have to be in the black at the end of the year, or you give it up. Noone's in this for the enjoyment anymore, those times were LOONG ago.

I am lucky enough to work at one of the best tracks
anywhere.
