The rain is gone from the Fayetteville-Tulsa area and the possible $5000 to win weekend for the USMTS Modifieds is a big "GO" tonight at West Siloam Speedway. WSS is located off US Hwy 412 just west of the Arkansas line on the Oklahoma side and not very far away from Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Muskogee, Tulsa, etc.
The rain has moved on to the south and east and the weekend looks rain free. Tonight's $2000 to win may be a little on the chilly side but a nice rebound with more Spring-like temperatures is in store for Saturday when it pays $3000 to win. One good thing about a Todd Staley-run program though is no matter what the temps, you won't be sitting in the stands all night waiting on much of anything. USMTS shows are quick and action-packed. The drivers gave West Siloam good reviews too on being a very racy track last year!
In 2007, this was the first USMTS Southern Series event but this year, it's part of the USMTS National Tour. The Missouri-Kansas Region to be exact -- one of four regions that will be competing for a shot at the National title via The Hunt presented by Casey's General Stores in 2008 along with the Southern Series representitives come August. These will be races #5 and #6 in the MO-KAN Region and it's been a lot of Shryock vs. Hughes so far as both have won two races each with a couple down-to-the-wire finishes thrown in for good measure but the man in second in the points is Chanute, Kansas racer John Allen. Allen is 44 points behind Shryock and 2 points ahead of Hughes. He has run all 6 National Tour events held so far, has a win in the Great Plains Region and has yet to finish outside the top ten. The USMTS Southern Series has it's opening weekend in 2 weeks at Golden Triangle Racewy Park in Beaumont, TX on Friday, April 18th and Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX on Saturday, April 19th!!!
West Siloam Speedway had a whale of a Modified race two weeks ago with a pair of well-established Okie Modified stars -- Greg Skaggs from Bixby and Eddie Martin from Stillwell going at it for the win. Skaggs -- last year's third plcae finisher in the Southern Series -- won that battle but the war may still be on! Martin had a good run last week at Enid Speedway Park's $10,000 to win "Thunder at the Park" event. He drove Alan Sharpensteen's SRP Chassis #51 from the B main to a 12th place start in the A and eventually posted a solid 4th place finish.
Martin echos the improvements to the West Siloam Speedway surface too. Only 30 minutes away from Stilwell, it was once a place that Eddie would rather not race at. Now, he's looking forward to either running the SRP Chassis there or his own Big Chief Chassis #51 this weekend.
With so much rain across Arkansas, Missouri and other states this week, West Siloam Speedway looks like one of the best bets for some excellent dirt track action this weekend so check 'em out!!
