Did anyone else see the circletrack magazine article this month on The Quest For Power in the June 2008 Circletrack Magazine?

Key points

1. TSR, GM and Ron Shaver team up to develope a new Sprint Car Engine based on the LS GM engine that will break into the 900+ HP range.

2. TSR is building a engine shop in Brownsburg Indiana that will be managed by Ron Shaver and will be supplying engines fir TSR's entire racing fleet, Sprint Cars both USAC and WoO, Midgets, Late Models and Dirt Late Models.

I have to look at this and wonder how this will affect Sprint Car racing as we know it.

Simple answer ? - It will just cost MORE to try and keep up with the top teams.....

You don't really believe that TSR is funding this, do you? Sounds to me that Chevy is funding this.....

This is where this sport has gone seriously wrong. How much can you spend to keep up with a guy who already wins the majority of the races??? I have always said - most races are won at the parts counter (or the engine shop in this case). So now the Kistlers and Don Otts of the world need to find a way to compete with that, costing them more money, in turn costing the drivers more money...and the last time I checked the tracks are not PAYING more money to win and ticket prices cannot be raised in this fragile economy where gas prices are already keeping people at home....it makes my head hurt.

More than ever...there is a need for a hard right rear tire compound rule. Maybe even go thinner and also have a left rear rule. If you can hook up the horsepower, there will be a need to find more horsepower.

A tire rule will not keep teams from spending money on Engines. Engine rules will change what teams spend their money on. Engine rules that might help are compression and air intake stack limits.

I would not count out the other engine builders just yet. Their's a lot of great wrenches out there. I heard once and I am starting to believe that they are reaching the limits of horse power that can be extracted from a 410 engine. I don't believe we have seen any great strides in horse power in probably 5yrs. You can only push and pull so much air and fuel in a given bore and stroke no matter how exotic the upper end or the lower end gets. What do you guys think?

Tell me how much money you got and I'll tell you how
fast you can go!

I think no matter what you are going to have guys spend the farm on whatever it takes to "be fast" how many races have either one of the TSR guys won this year with their unlimited budgets!? We still race cars, not check books. Yeah it sucks when the guy pitted beside you is rolling out diamond studded lug nuts, but he has to race the same 25 laps that you do come feature time.

I guess my glass is half full....lol...we'll see where it's at in 5 years

Thanks for the post, cmp. And Ron pretty much confirmed my suspicions that it's all about the benjamins, with the funding coming from Chevy corporate $.

Just another high dollar intrusion into sprint cars....
