Mason Moore set for first Chico point race
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA – March 24, 2008…After competing in two night’s of 360 sprint car action this past weekend during the Silver Cup, Mason Moore and the No. 22 team will now turn the attention to this coming Friday’s opening 410 point race at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
The Silver Cup saw 50 plus cars in competition and uses a draw show format, which utilizes passing points during the heat race action to set line-ups for Saturday’s main event line-ups. With heat race finishes of third and eighth Moore had earned enough to give himself a ninth place starting position in the Saturday B-main. With passing opportunities limited in the semi however, the 17 year-old held his ground and brought home a ninth place finish aboard the Moore Insurance Services, Rolling Hills Casino No. 22.
This Friday night will see Moore and a number of other competitors kick off the ’08 point race season at Silver Dollar Speedway with a special night honoring Bill Brownell. The big night of action will award the winner of the 410 sprint car main event a nice $3,000, which is one of highest paying point races in recent memory.
Last season saw Moore and the Mike Clarke wrenched No. 22 finish eighth in Silver Dollar Speedway points with one fast time award, four top five finishes and 10 top tens. At the year end John Padjen Motorsports awards banquet Moore was then named Rookie of the Year for the track. This season he will be back looking to build off the rookie year and get into victory lane for the first time.
