David.....little confusion here. You ask for "favorite," not "best," like in the super poll. There may be a driver who wasn't my "favorite," but that didn't keep them from being among the "best." My answer might be different, depending on which you really meant. Maybe my favorite driver could barely miss the pit gate on a good night. And by the way, why isn't Sluggo listed?

Modified is a lot harder. Owens probably gets it because he was on top longer, but Bean and Wilson had some years when they were awesome.

Abernathy raced in the very late 70's and early 80's.I know this because I used to crew for Lynn Shebester when he first started with the mods.

Yeah he raced for a long time and was fast. He also built motors for quite a few fast guys also.

Gotta mention Dutch and Wayne Wade.....they put on some great shows in the early '80's. Besides, Dutch is now on, what, his fourth generation of fans? He's outlived all the ones he started with.

LOL!
I just remembered one night in particular. And as young as I was this is probably the only reason I remember Travis Sweek.
We would sit in the lower section that is immediately right of the press booth. Basically 20 feet from the Wade fan club, who just about everybody couldn't stand. Or maybe it was just 2 or 3 of em that made complete arses of themselves quite often. Anyways, Travis Sweek had one an A Main and in doing made some contact with Wayne Wade. Well.....the fans in our immediate vicinity were quite joyous of the whole deal and were cheering. One of the happy on-lookers got jumped by 3 or 4 of the Wade bunch as he was going down the ramps after the races.
Now I'm not quite sure this is all EXACTLY how it happened. But I can still remember the fella getting jumped. Considering back then Mr. Lenhart was still sitting in the same place he does today (go figure) he could probably shed a bit more light on this. But unfortunately, James is the 007 of the Tidbits forum. you know. Secret Agent Man.........

Wow, I thought the Reeds are a lot younger than that. I didn't know they raced in the 60's and 70's.
