We are considering trying out a different camping spot for this years Nationals. Was wondering if any local residents could fill us in on the Lake Red Rock area specifically the Whitebreast Camping area. How far from the track? Easy commute? Nice area? Other suggestions? (we'd kinda like the county park/state park type places for this year) Marion County Park of course is already full- otherwise we'd go there. Whitebreast looks to be decent too.

If there are any Nationals goers that possibly camp in this area- any insight would help as far as if this place is swamped busy (so reserve now), the facilities, hookups, atmopshere.

Thank You for any help, assistance, ideas.

Coming from a Knoxville resident... Whitebreast is a nice campground, and will take about 10-15 minutes to get to, barring a ton of traffic issues. Commute is pretty easy. Another suggestion would be Elk Rock. It's a state park on Lake Red Rock as well, and is 3 or 4 miles north of Knoxville on highway 14, the same road as the track.

Sprint99, I totally agree with the herrmannator. Elk lake is beautiful, serene and picturesque. Almost reminds me of Canada's north....lol..... Seriously, I would push for that campground.

Whitebreast is a very nice park/campground, and has all the amentities for a camper. Their is also a public beach and shower right next door. It is about a 10 minute drive to the track if you know the backroads.

I have stayed at Wallashuck campground on Lake Red Rock for the last 8 or 9 years. Its also an Army Corp. of Engineers campground like Whitebreast. But I believe its closer to Pella than Whitebreast. Also, its close to the marina, which is nice because people from my group bring boats. Wallashuck is about 15 minutes from the track. Very nice, clean campground. My friends that live in Knoxville always try and talk me into Whitebreast. But when you have 10 campsites in our group, its hard to get everyone to break tradition and move to a different campground. Kind of like the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." But if others are full, for sure check out Wallashuck. Hope this helps.

Looks like a lot of sites at the majority of Lake Red Rock area campgrounds are not reserveable (like the 50amp sites or full hook up sites) online and You kind of have to "chance it" to get them. I assume several days prior to the Nationals they are already taken. We'll have to find a reserveable online spot to be certain as the wife doesn't want to "chance it" -though this year I am willing. Thank You for the ideas, help, and continued support! Smile
