Zack West welcomes Lee Watson to team for ‘08

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – February 27, 2008…As the Northern California sprint car season fast approaches Zack West and the We st-ing Racing No. 14 team are proud to welcome crew chief Lee Watson to the operation for the ’08 year. Watson joined the team for a few races towards the end of last season and will be on board full-time this year, which is a huge boost for West and the team.

Watson is a talented 23 year-old wrench who has spent time with teams the last couple years such as the Fisher-Main Motorsports No. 35m driven by Sean Becker and the Williams Motorsports No. 0 driven by Jonathan Allard. The owner of Watson Carbon Fiber also helped guide Joey Saldana to a victory and a second place finish in the overall standings at this past year’s Trophy Cup, when the Outlaw regular sat behind the wheel of the Harold Main owned No. 35a.

With the crew chief position playing such an integral part of any racing operation, it makes West look forward to the upcoming season even more knowing he has one of the best in Nor Cal turning the wrenches. “I’m definitely happy to have Lee on board this season,” the young driver said. “Lee seems to write down and study just about everything to try and make a car go fast and he really helped towards the end of the year.”

West is also pleased to welcome Butler Built Performance as a sponsor for the ’08 racing season. “I enjoyed talking with Jeanne Butler last year at the Gold Cup and Jonathan Allard was a big help in hooking us up for this season,” West said. “At one point my dad, Jonathan, Jeanne and Paul Mcmahan were all in the trailer talking, which was pretty cool. Butler Built is a great company and I’m proud to have them as a sponsor this year.”

As of now plans to be at the Mini Gold Cup are up in the air and dependent on getting the motor back in time. The team will certainly be ready in time however, for the opening Feather Falls Casino Point Race at Silver Dollar Speedway on March 28.
