My boyfriend, Sgt.Lance Spencer is currently serving over in Afghanistan . When I asked if I could send his unit stuff along with his care packages he said it would be great to get them magazines to keep them updated and entertained.
After hearing this I realized how many magazines go to waste these magazines would be greatly appreciated by all the guys in his unit.
It would not only help them to pass the time and stay current, but most importantly, it keeps their minds off the reality of war.
This is why I want to start magazines for the military. If I get enough magazines every month I will send them to other troops over seas as well through anysoldier.com
Though my mission is simple, it's meaning to the troops is quite significant. It reminds them that we are thinking about them and that they are greatly loved.

What do I bring? magazines and things troops would like to have while away from home.
As mentioned before, my mission is to collect magazines. There are many different types of magazines, and here are some good examples:
Good Magazines to bring:
Current Magazines: Time, Newsweek, People etc.
Sport Magazines: Sports Illustrated, Gold World, Running, Bicycling etc.
There are indeed women in the military so you can give a limited amount of women's magazines such as Elle, or Glamour.
Assorted: Wildlife, Consumer Reports, Discover, Hunting,FHM,maxim etc.
Essentially, just use your better judgment when deciding what to bring.

As you know, shipping a ton of magazines is going to cost quite a bit of money this is why all donations towards shipping are greatly appreciated. When dropping off magazines to me either at work or at my house, I will have a box set up for the magazines just drop them in there and I will ship them once every first of the month. If you cant get to me at work or drop magazines off at my house, feel free to notify me through email or phone and mail any contributions to my address.
