From ibracn.com:

TMAC PROMOTING AGAIN - (2-12-08 @ 10:00 pm) - RUMOR - I have been told that Terry McCarl will be wearing his promoter hat more in 2008. The rumor states that TMAC will be partnering with 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA to bring the WoO to the track on July 2, 2008. Of course, TMAC already promotes the Front Row Challenge and the Ultimate Front Row Challenge and is very successful with those events. This could be another interesting WoO event.

Anyone heard or know anything about this? I'll be super pumped if this happens.

I can't say for sure about the promoting bit. But I did hear over the weekend That the Outlaws were going to be racing at 34 on July 2nd. Tickets were going to be in the neighborhood of $40 and it might be reseved seating. It should be announced within a couple weeks. A friend of a local sponsor was already asking me how many tickets I would be needing. So it sounds like it's going to be a go.

Wonder what Knoxville has to say about this? Kinda crowding the big track, perhaps?

One of the things the braintrust at Knoxville has blamed for reduction in WoO show attendence over the years has been "over-saturation" of WoO events in the area. This is getting right in the kitchen, it seems.

Interesting stuff...

A couple of points I'd like to make here.

1. I don't live in or near Burlington, but my family lives there and I'm familiar with the area. (BTW lyv wyr, we're old family friends with the Hetricks. My Dad used to crew for Brian's Dad). It's a great town for racing and the WoO at 34 would probably pack the place like never before. The area has been starved for sprint car racing (save for the SIA), and the new track owners started to feed the monster with their weekly 305 shows last year.

2. John, I think the braintrust at Knoxville needs to look a little deeper to find their attendance problems. I live in Ohio; the WoO makes several stops at Eldora every year, and even with shows at Attica, Limaland, and K-C during the year (all within the same driving distance that 34 Raceway is from Knoxville), I don't believe Eldora is hurting for fans at their WoO shows. Just my thoughts.

Knoxville has gone back to a two-night show for the WoO sprints in June (6th and 7th). They will also be at Knoxville on April 26. Great crowds last year, hope for the same this year...you can order reserved tickets online at www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com!

John Katich does not know what he is talking about.

I hear the same thing about Burlington and agree that it would be a great show. I am sure if this is true that Knoxville is ok with it.

Good post Jake B.

And you won't be paying $40 at Knoxville. It will be a great show at Burlington. Couple weeks ago I heard a different date though, between Joliet and Pevely. Will wait and see.

The bottom line is whatever the track is, if the WoO are at a track (or an area) more than once, most times than not the attendance takes a hit. I've seen Knoxville and Eldora both packed and both sparsely attended. I went to Eldora three times last year for the WoO and twice it was packed and one it was about 2/3 full. This argument has been going on for as long as the WoO vs POSSE argument. Oh no, I hope I didn't just get another one going. Smile

What kind of seating capacity does 34 Raceway have? Will they be adding temp seating for this event? Will this be a midweek or weekend race?

If it's July 2nd as reported it would be a Wens. night show.

34 raceways is a high banked 3/8 mile. A very racey joint when prepared right. Seating is limited, 3 - 4000 I would guess thus the $40 price tag. I would think the show would be a sellout if promoted well. I have not been there in a while so I do not know if seating has been expanded, but I do not recall much space to put in more seats.

My question would be car count. When the WoO ran at Davenport they drew a big crowd but only 23 cars. Not many Knoxville regulars showed up. Perhaps more would feel they could compete on a smaller track where pure horsepower would not be as big an advantage.

At Davenport, are you talking about when there was a split?

I don't remember the WoO at Davenport, I think that was the NST you are remembering. How many cars are following the World of Outlaws this year?

Can you put people in the infield at Burlington? I have seen that done at Oskaloosa and Jackson MN did it when they had a big crowd.

The WoO raced at Davenport in the '90's a couple of times I think. Bill W probably has stats on that. Car count would depend on how many cars are running the WoO tour and whatever others can be prodded into coming. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Knoxville cars and perhaps a few from the Midwest All Stars, if there are no scheduling or other conflicts. Could even see a couple of 360's from the area show up. A good show would have around 28-32 cars. I can see maybe around 28.

Not looking to get overly political here...but, I wonder if the Knoxville Nationals event was WoO sanctioned, would the series be racing at Burlington?

I'm not saying the WoO should or shouldn't be at Burlington or that Knoxville should or shouldn't care either way...it's just a question that kinda stands out when you think about it.

Both were Wednesday shows - 22 in 1995 and 30 in 1996...I would think with 20 travelers, less than 30 cars at the Burlington show would be a disappointment...

34 Raceways is one of the best Sprint Car tracks around. They now run 305's but in the earlier years they ran 410's and 360's. There have been some big name drivers ran there years ago like Doug Wolfgang, Jerry Blundy. and a lot of the old timers. They turned it into a taxi cab track for years. I don't care what a ticket costs I will go as it is a racy joint if they prepare the track right.

Let's all be glad that we have another sprint car race to attend. Give Laue's (promoters) credit for taking the risk involved to finance a WOO race. For those of you that have not been to 34 Raceway in several years, you will be surprised. Former 34 Raceway owner and late model driver/owner Johnny Johnson deserves a lot of credit for the money that he spent to upgrade this facility. He put in new Musco lighting, new bleachers with backs, new restrooms, new concessions, and other improvements. The Laue's have expanded on it and have done a nice job. I was talking to Jason Meyers' crew chief, DJ Lyndsay at Knoxville. DJ is from Illinois and had not been to the track in several years. They were passing the track on their way to Knoxville, and DJ told me that he was surprised at how many improvements and how nice the facility looked just from the hwy. This has been a big sprint car area for years and it won't hurt Knoxville one bit. Optimistically, it could bring back some local sprint cars fans that have not attended for a few years. If they like it, which they will, they may go see the WOO when they are in Knoxville. It will be a great show on the 3/8 mile.

I had heard last year that Jeff & Amy were trying to get an Outlaw show at 34, but I didn't think it would be this soon. Just as several others have said the facility at 34 is pretty nice and will be an excellent place to see the big boy's race. The stands for the 410 show they had last year were very full, even though they only had about 10 410's show up. Southeasten Ia & West Central Il are full of sprint crazy fans. If this show does come to light like it sounds, it will sell out easy.

This Is awesome, By the way, some legends that ran here that haven't been mentioned include Rick Ferkel and Leland Mcspadden. 34 has always been one of my favorite tracks and now it is one of the nicest facilities top to bottom in the midwest. As for Knoxville, their slow demise(on the weekly front) is two tiered. Too many 360 cars and nowhere else close for 410's to run. Maybe running an outlaw show besides Knoxville this will lead to a revival of perhaps some area track stepping up with weekly sprint show. People are tired of watch 6 classes of modified and taxi cab classes of racing. I usually have to make several trips to Indiana in the summer just to see some real racing, now its finally coming to my backyard. This is the best news I've heard since the return of 410 non wing sprints at Jacksonville IL this coming year.

I think... (this is my 2 pennies) If 34 would have the WoO there, they would end up having to turn people away at the gate cause the house would be packed. This would be a historical event for Burlington, Ia. May not be reconized by alot of people, but people in the racing commuinty know what I'm talking about. Me personally would pay $100 for a ticket to see the WoO at 34 Raceway. I remember the day's when Pallester had Doug Wolfgang there at the 410 specials and that was amazing watching him race 34 now imagine 24 of the worlds best at our home track gives me chills just thinking about it! WoO or bust @ 34 Raceway in 2008!!!!
