It's a Cowboy Thing…
Lakewood, CA – Southern California sprint car fans and the "Jones Nation" are expected to turn out this Saturday to honor last year's Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Champion Tony Jones of Norco. Lakewood's Zanzabuku Sports Lounge will be hosting the event for the second consecutive year.
Plans include a Taco Bar and Mexican food provided by team sponsor the La Villa Mexican Restaurant in Gardenia, a 50/50 draw, videos provided by SCRAFAN.com's Lance Jennings and Jeff Christensen of RacewayVideo.com, a raffle featuring many race related items and the official unveiling of a wall at the bar dedicated to Jones and the Alexander race team. In addition the championship Alexander Sprint Car will be parked in front of the bar for fans to get a close look at a car built strictly for racing.
The Mark Alexander Sprinter features a DRC Chassis and a 410 c.i. racing engine from J&D Performance. Both are located in Indiana. It was the first USAC title for the driver known by race fans as the "Cowboy." Jones is the son of legendary sprint car driver Bubby Jones. His final point margin was 50 over runner-up Mike Spencer after the two finished sixth and second in the series final race at the Perris Auto Speedway. Jones won five main events last year in the competitive Lucas Oil USAC/CRA series.
Activities begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday (tomorrow) with the mexican food to be served beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Zanzabuku Sports Lounge is located at 4825 Paramount Blvd. in the city of Lakewood. For more information call the bar at 562.423 9872.
