Both sprint car drivers left Florida disapointed as East Bay was rained out and not rescheduled. Possibily the last 410 race as been held at the once venerated speedway.

Saw some great Winter Nationals in the distant past there. Fondest memory for me is Cris Eash (off the porch) flipping over the line to take the checkers and the $10,000.00

anything about racing. I don’t understand how they
come up with some of the calls they do. It makes me
think that they just might be that stupid. It’s
scary." -Steve Kinser

Rumor at East Bay on Monday was that Ken Schrader and Wayne Ruttiman (spelling?) were going to buy East Bay and in 2009 there were going to be 5 nights of 410 racing there along with the 360 Winternationals...

not aware of details -
but that sounds like a good idea - seems they have good 360 races there. what things happened that led to 410's not much runnin there or being pissed in years past - or what probs are there w/ current ownership? I haven't been really following Florida speedweeks until the last couple years..........

The present owners group are a greedy lot who have often cheated the racers out of purses and fans out of ticket refunds. They also do not feel that sanctioning bodies bring enough to the table to share. Lonnie and Emmit (ASCS) are the only sprint car people that are the exception but they are smarter than the average promoters too. The present group also do not like sprint cars as they feel they are overly paid as a group. The alpha of the owners group is often referred to as "Back Gate" Al. East Bay has become a mecca for street, hobby and mini stocks where over a hundred race each Saturday night. Go karts also run frequently on Friday night for trophys with substantial entry fees.
The facilities are in good shape and the right person or group could be sitting on a gold mine.

Your right. It was David, not Wayne that was mentioned as a future owner. I've been to the Winter Nationals there the last two years and I think the racing there is great. To me, its a whole lot better than Volusia. But the prices are just too high. I'm young and I can't get any of my friends to go with me anymore because they can't afford it. The concrete pads in the pits are an extra $25 to use. Those should be on a first come first serve basis.

very interesting. thank you for your very honest and candid opinion. hopefully those things can all change for next year. I may never see East Bay - but more races there means potentially more live audio broadcasts - and during febuary when the weather in Oklahoma can't make up its mind on what it wants to do - listenin' to live sprint races helps pass the time pretty good!

I'm surprised about your weather. Everytime I've been to Oklahoma in the winter the weather and racing has been terrific.......under the Driller's Dome.
