LABOR DAY WEEKEND
August 30 The California Vintage Nationals will be held at Shasta Raceway Park at the fairgrounds in Anderson. If you have a vintage race car, and would like a registration form just contact me at [email protected] and I will send you one. For those who would like to see the Vintage Sprint Cars, Midgets, Hardtops, Supers, and Roadsters from the 1920's to the 1980's be sure to mark your calendar and come up for a blast from the past. It is going to be a great show with a lot of racing legends from the past. The cars will practice all day on Friday for the show on Saturday. Billy Shuman said we were going to have a re-match when I beat him last year at Roseville. Tony Simon, Norm Rapp, John Cordell, Ken Nichols, is just some of the racing stars from the past that will all be in the midget divison., and some legends will also be in the Sprints, Hardtops, and Supers as well.
Hope to see you there. Johnny Andeson

One of the biggest events for open wheel non wing racing in CA that everybody and their brother has hoped would have for many years now happens Labor Day weekend at Calistoga.
Another track just a few hours away schedules what could be a premier vintage sprint car event to run the same weekend with the hopes of??? Even after the national event has already announced their schedule.
I really wanted to go the California Vintage Nationals this year but who knows if the event at Calistoga is a one time deal or will happen every year.

Unfortunately how it came down was we were trying not to schedule against the Gold Cup or the W.C.R.A. All American Vintage Classic held after the Gold Cup. If we held the event after the Classic it would be good chances of rain in Anderson so I called John Padjen to get a suggestion. After hearing our delema he suggested nothing is happening now at Calistoga on Labor Day weekend, since the Outlaws don't come anymore, so why not use that date. Good idea. So we set that up and sent out the invitaions to car owners to find out a few weeks later that they were thinking of setting up a USAC show the same Labor Day weekend. I called Mike Kenny and he said it wasn't set yet, just talking about it, but looks like they decided to go ahead and have it. It's a shame cause I would really like to go to Calistoga, but I have committed to the California Nationals up at Anderson. We are hoping this will be a annual event for the vintage cars so I have to be there to help them get it going. The cars are signing up in good numbers and looks like we will have a really good show. I got a ride in an awesome spinter for VanConnett and got a ride for my brother Bill and I and was planning on having some fun dicing it up a few laps with them, but guess not now.

Let me step back then because it appears you indeed scheduled your event prior to the one at Calistoga being scheduled. Sorry for implying you did otherwise.
It really is a shame. I am sure there will be an awesome turnout of cars for your event. From a photographic standpoint I would rather shoot them at Anderson also. Unfortunately, unless the USAC show gets cancelled I don't see it as being well attended. Of course, if they keep telling everyone that it is just tenatively scheduled no one will make any plans to go to Calistoga.

Thats OK you wouldn't have known. I guess it is just a part of scheduling. Beings Shasta got a new promoter I had to wait late to get a date and actually to the good of Tommy Hunt with USAC and Mike Kenny of Calistoga they thought I had the September date at the promoters workshop in December so I can't blame them. I see the T on the schedule, but I think it is going to happen. Will miss seeing you and so many others this year. Cars are signing up from Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and up and down California so a strong showing of Sprinters . I haven't gotten Arizona yet, but think there is some from there that will attend from what I hear.

Johnny you are to this day my favorite driver!!!! Will you be driving a former Don Snow #4, J.F. Mcray #21, or a Carville and Alvas #45, or better yet a Starr #18? No matter which one, enjoy yourself, and make sure to beat the "Dragon from Galt" in the sprints, and mix it up with "Hank the Crank" in the midgets!!!

Thanks its nice to be remembered. I don't think those cars are coming, but although not the Don Snows #4 there is a Stapp Sprinter coming. I'm sure Hank will be there driving the Shonian Offy. He blew me away last time I was on the track with him in the vintage cars in 06...that car is strong. I came in second, but just couldn't catch him with the Chevy II midget. If Calistoga does come together Leroy will not be at our deal as he will want to be there, but maybe things will pan out where he can come and we can get out there and have a go around. Again thanks for the nice comment, if your around come on up and see me in the pits. I'll be driving the #7 midget. Johnny
