With the rumble of the late models and sprint cars floating away in the evening air, the modifieds and the newly revised super stock/street stock/stock car class took over at the mythical MDTR Speedway for week #2 action in the 9th Annual GRP Racing Trivia Contest. Interest has been spiked a bit this year when GRP announced that the fourth division will include a sampling of not only the popular super stock division but also for the first time the street stocks and IMCA-type stock cars. GRP even snuck in an old stock car question that kind of relates more to what would actually be late models, but the title of the race simply had the wording "Stock Car" in it so it was fair game.

Normally the opening day in the contest does not see any actual entries arrive, as contestants are hard at work researching the best possible setup for their entries. However, the 2008 edition of the "new" super/street/stock car class already has one entry in the books on opening day. That entry comes from a rookie contestant, but his name is certainly well-known among Upper Midwest area race fans and especially here in WISSOTA Country. He's a three-time WISSOTA National Point Champion in the street stock division and his racing resume includes four Western 100 victories and one WISSOTA 100 victory in the street stock class. We are of course speaking of none other than Scott Paulson from Kimball, MN. Let's see how Scott did.

Pulling into the staging area on the opening day of week #2, Scott Paulson had his familiar orange #33 Paulson Racing street stock on hand. Since GRP included the street stocks in the contest for the first time, Scott decided to give it a try. Scott has been racing in the street stock division around our area since about 1994. His first contest attempt really caught the attention of many MDTR fans. It is always a pleasure to welcome new contestants to the contest. But could Scott be competitive with his #33 streeter against those supers and stock cars wondered the fans? The answer to that question came early on in his run on the high-banks. Scott was typically smooth and fast. There was no doubt he would post a very good score with his lap times showing consistency throughout his run. As Scott glided under Stan's checkered flag, he had put up a very interesting number for his score. Yes fans, Scott scored the same number as he carries on his street stock. A 33 point effort will be a very good score and should be a contender for the Victory Funding Connection Rookie of the Year Award. Once some other entries begin arriving, we'll be able to see how his score stacks up.

As has been a tradition of Scott's for a long time, he was seen giving away a few trophies to some young race fans in his pits following the races. Great run today for the Madfrog #33 street stock from Kimball. Bring on those supers and stock cars remarked Scott and see what they have.

In other contest news, an update was received today from Mark Sinn. Mark was all set to make a run at the '08 title in the late model division, but lo and behold somebody had told him the track had changed the sanction and he didn't have the right tires. So Mark put the Sinner Special back up on the jackstands and began converting it to a super stock. Mark knew that division was opened up this year, so tires would not be an issue. We'll see what he brings down with him from Warren this week.

One minor clarification on modified question #12. I am looking for the winner of the 25th Annual IMCA Super Nationals, not the Efkamp race winner. That late model guy from Superior wanted it clarified, so I figured I better do that for all contestants. It should not be a hard answer to find. Smile
