Has anyone heard any news on if there might be new management at Wilmot Speedway WI for 2008? If so that would be awsome, maybe us the fans can start going back to Wilmot for weekly events.

I looked at the IRA schedule and it has its dates for wilmot as "likely". Whats that all about? No outlaw show. The modifieds are nothing but a glorified demo derby. The best class out there this year will be the mini-sprints. I hope new management is in the plans for the future cause these guys have no clue. I hope the county fair board takes a good look at future management cause this place is on its last leg.

I heard that there is nothing concrete regarding the promoter at this time.

With the right people backing and money this place could be wonderful. It would bring the fan and car count up. Then maybe they could have some big shows there like ALLSTARS or WORLD OF OUTLAWS.

With the right people backing and money everyplace could be wonderful. Have you kept an eye on the stock market and business page lately? Hang onto your shorts (as in fields), this could be a tough season. Running a short track and turning a profit, especially when dealing with a Fair Board, isn't the easiest thing to do anymore. It's not much easier for the fans when they're worried about their jobs and putting groceries on the table. I make a pretty good living but the economy is going to affect my plans this season. I'm surprised that nobody else on these boards can see what a challenge it is to be a racer, a fan or a promoter. Evidently the sky in my world is a completely different color than yours.

The post was the same theme different state from a lot of the ones I see on the local boards. I'm all for huge fields of cars and promoters pouring huge sums of cash into a track or series out of generosity with no concern of ever turning a profit. Unfortunately, that's not reality and that's probably not how you intended to come across. Of course there is one series which I won't name that has poured millions into the betterment of the sport and they don't get so much as a thank you so you can see how thankless of a job it must be.
I think that a lot of people have assumptions about promoters of their favorite tracks but they probably have never sat down with them and learned what's involved in running a track. I guess that's an area where as a writer I have gotten to know some of the promoters whereas most fans don't have a good understanding of what they're dealing with. Every time they put on a special event it's a gamble with the weather, which drivers are going to show, paying help, insurance, sanctioning fees, purse, and hoping they get a good crowd. It's a moot point for me because I struggle just to get to the races in an ol' 93' Ranger without cruise or AC so putting as much on the line as the promoters ain't happening for me.

It is my understanding that the lease is up and that there has been no contract signed at this time.

I did find it informative dick. At least I know there is still a chance the same clowns might not be there this year, nothings locked in yet. I live 15 minutes from the track, and have'nt gone the last 2 years except to IRA shows. If and when new promoters come in there, I'll be back.

Stan, you are correct on who this is.
MSH -- plans are not solidified as of yet for 2008.
Wilmot is the track I grew up watching sprint cars race at. I have friends that race there in different classes. In order for the track to be successful, the management will need to work with the racers instead of think that they are providing a good enough service by just opening the gate for them to race. To my friends that need the local track to be open, I hope you will have a place to race in 2008.

As of Sat we still have hope! I also have friends that race out there and I would rather see them park their cars, go to powercom or even farther a few times a year then donate money to slow motion entertainment. If slow motion does run this place in 08 the fair board should make them get some technology. Watching billy bob try to lineup the IMCA's at 11:00 for the 12th time in4 laps gets real old, and they should be able to tell as the long line of fans files out of the grandstands not even seeing the finish.

This could be the end of "squirley simons" career if the family isn't gonna be running the joint. I mean with a fair flagman and track officials he probably won't get filtered to the front under all the cautiions and they might not keep the race under caution while he comes to the pits to fill his radiator. Boy that would be a shame.
