Activity at the MDTR Speedway continued on the second day of week #1 in the 9th Annual GRP Racing Trivia Contest. The late model and sprint car contestants rolled on and off the track, as they feverishly worked on their "setups" in hopes of posting a high score enroute to a victory. The first two entries in the contest were received in the late model division today. A couple of strong runners decided to put up an early score for the other contestants to shoot at.

Last year's champion in the late model division was the very first entry to be received in the 2008 version of this popular event. Kevin Mudrak from Superior, Wisconsin once again brought his potent Latemodel1 entry trackside for what many fans figured would be a top run. Kevin is no stranger to the MDTR Speedway, having turned many laps in all of the contest divisions over the years. Kevin made his first appearance back in 2003 in the 4th Annual affair and proceeded to win Rookie of the Year honors. Since that time, Kevin has strengthened his program each and every year finishing no lower than 3rd. Last year he put it all together to defeat perennial kingpin Chris Stepan by gaining the upper hand due to the earliest entry tie-breaker. Once again Kevin was looking for that early entry advantage.

This year would be different though for Kevin, as he struggled during several laps to gain a smooth line around the MDTR high banks. A couple of bobbles here and there led to a 35 point score out of a possible 40. When he climbed from his mount following the race, Kevin remarked that he knew he had a couple of bad laps. He knew the correct answer, but it was too late to make a change once he took the green flag from Stan M. It's still a very strong score, but Kevin admitted that he did not think it could withstand the onslaught brought on by some very tough competitors in this tough division.

The second late model entry today also comes from a contestant who knows his way around the MDTR Speedway as well as the campground. The "Bonduel Bullet" Brad Luepke is one of those contestants who not only participates on the track, but he enjoys camping out for the whole week. This year Brad got a few setup tips from one of his buddies over in Eastern Wisconsin and he had his Bloomer0 Chassis dialed in. Brad recorded his best, from a percentage standpoint, score ever in the contest. The PBR Special rode home under Stan's checkered flag with a total of 30 points. Now it's time to party and give those Superior fans something to think about remarked Brad.

In the sprint car ranks, numerous contestants continued to fine-tune their entries today in an attempt to nail the right setup. It is no easy task to defeat the likes of Ron Haugstad, Todd Boots and others, but Michael Pietrowski has steadily worked his way forward in the three previous contests with a fine second place effort last year. We generally do not hear a great deal from the sprint car contingent early in the week, but they are out there and there are certainly some very strong runners in this class. The sprint car division is the only division that has been a part of all nine contests. Maybe the first entry will come in on the third day of the contest. Stay tuned for further updates as we work our way through the week with the "walk on the wild side" sprinters and the always popular late model divisions.

Thanks for posting the contest history GRP. It seems like we just started but we're already in the 9th year and have some history going here.
