Unless you are a car owner (2 in my case) you can't really imigine just how much this sport costs. A $100K a year is a pretty good starting point if you race weekly (or more) and want to run up front, (Ventura excepted). And if you don't own a trucking company, a string of body shops or a meat packing plant (and have a place to expense/hide the cost) you have to earn $150K to have the $100K after taxes (Bigfish I don't expect you to understand that tax reality so trust me). Point being, the $25 transponder fee or whatever it is at Perris is not the reason for declining counts (do you really think someone would quit racing over that?). Look at the NHRA, they are saying they do not expect to have enough fuel cars to fill 16 car fields in the professional classes.Do you think Prudhomme is going to field one less car cus he is pissed at the NHRA? This deal is simple economics and in this economy car owners are wondering, "can I afford to keep doing this?", folks. Don't sit in the stands and moan about USAC, WoO or whoever and declining car counts. Methanol has doubled in price in the last year, the weekly right rear is 200 bucks and the cost of diesel is thru the roof and 401k's are shrinking. USAC had nothing to do with this.

Do you want to do something about it? Find a driver/team/car you like and go into the pits and buy them a RR, a drum of fuel or pay their pit passes to the next race. If you are loaded help them w/ a $7000 engine rebuild. It all helps. Then, you will be entitled to bitch and speculate all you want.

I did help sponser a car in the 80's .I do know how much it costs to run a team. I do apologize for my all of you comment. It was meant more to the fans who complain about how things are run. I wish I had a series close enough for me to drive to complain about. It wasn't meant to offend any owner or team. I agree with everything you  say in your post

I think I made it clear about what I don't like and what I feel is missing nowadays and it's just not the car count. I never said I didn't like USAC, I just don't like the sell out! I've never said, do this, do that, to anyone on this board. I grew up at the track, can't remember not being there and I'll be 60 on groundhogs day. Not having the traditional rivalry SUCKS! It might not mean anything to some of you younger guys but you don't know what's been lost if you never had it.

That's a USAC sticker on my front bumper.

See ya at the Copper on dirt, top row, down towards one.

It was not my intention to offend any team or owner. I did sponser a team in the 80's and do know what it costs to run a car.I know that there are differences of opinion with USAC and teams and fans. What I was trying to say is I wish I had a track as close to my home as Perris is for the fans down there.I am not bitching ,nor speculating, I think it is some of your local fans that are. And as far as car count goes, one of the best races I saw all year the car count was in the low 20's when Divid Cardey won his first race. Does anyone remember how awesome that race was.I think all who were there got their $$$ worth

my point yo you china girl is I have always had to travel to see a sprint car race. For you who don't, and have to find things to complain about, then go to ventura. But if you want to become a star in nonwing sprimt car racing, evevntually you are going to have to put a 410 under your cover. I am also sure that it takes less $$ to run a 360. And as far as the backit in comment, kiss my backside

If someone like Shuman was running the show under a different banner it would be alot different out at the Pas. And the guys at Ventura are stars and could run with the boys in Usac/cra... And as far as kissing your backside, NO THANKS, it's worn out!!!!

if you knew much about sprint car racing, you'd know that as popular as Ronnie is with me and most other people, they were complaining with him also. You need to go back to China

Every head of a racing organization has their share of complainers. NASCAR, NHRA, WoO, USAC and even the local door slammer tracks. Its just a matter of whether or not your getting the job done. It's a position that is very difficult and very few can do it.

USAC has FINALLY come out of their comma. They saw what they were doing wasn't working very well. Therfore, they put in new figure heads for both the national and regional series.

Will they now do a better job with these changes? Only time will tell. In speaking with USAC/CRA car owner and drivers at the Chili Bowl, they are hopeful things will improve. As one car owner said: "If things don't improve, one things for sure, we did this to ourselves."

Now there's a sensible post! Nice job of explaining the issues. And I'll committ to buying one of the teams a Right Rear this season! Thanks for taking the time to set us straight.

Amen to that!!! And count on me for a RR or anything I can do to help a smaller team the next time I am at the PAS. That was my point from the get go. No matter who or what body is running the series, not everyone will always be happy. My hats off to you for putting it better than I did when I got into a battle of wits with an unarmed chinagirl
