They know it's not as big as the Chili Bowl but it's a great thing for open wheel fans with a bad case of cabin fever who couldn't go south to get a head start on the season. There's a niche for something like that up here and I hope it's successful and becomes an annual event. I'm looking forward to it because it's right in my back yard.

Fenders are like vacuums... they both suck.

I think 40 cars is the target for the innagural event. The goal is to put butts in the stands, put on a good show and make a few bucks so that this can grow and become an annual event.

Go ahead and go and tell us how it is. Talked to a Badger official and he thought they may bring 15-18 cars.

Please post the Badger official's name because we're getting different information from people involved with the track.
Why the rumors to discourage people from attending? Most people would would want to see a first time event be a success.

thats a very reasonable question Stan........
however it is asked in a place without much reason.
I don't know why they would bash it - except maybe they pissed they have another 2-3 months before they a race........?.?.? not sure. I'll probably never see it but I hope it does well - so that northern midwest race fans can see an off-season race every year w/o having to travel to Tulsa...........
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a

It would be nice if the event would succeed. I am four hours away and would love to go. I am wondering however what other drivers might be going. I have only seen badger listed as involved. They do have some great drivers and always put on a great show but only averaged 30 cars last summer. with a few events in the low twenties.
also wondering about the building. looking at some pictures it looks small to me. Has anyone been there? can they really build a track similar to the chili bowl?

We think it sounds very interesting. The midget show will be followed up with an IKF Karting event an April 4-5-6.
http://www.northlandtour.com/Schedule.html
The Badger release says track size between 1/5-1/4 mi. Us karters have been hearing 1/6 mi. Who knows, too soon to tell since it's never been done before. Either way, it'll be a big track for the karts.
Hope it works out for everyone.
BTW....If anyone in the area would be interested in purchasing some advertising for the kart weekend, please contact me.

It's 32 miles for me and I take photos so I'll be there hoping that it becomes an annual thing.
The subject of this thread, "Sand Box vs. the Chili Bowl?" should have read "Sand Box and/or the Chili Bowl." I talked to somebody from the track a couple days after it was announced and they're certainly not entertaining any ideas of competing with the Chili Bowl. They're just trying to carve out a niche for racing fans here in the upper Midwest and find another use for the motocross facility.
There's enough room in the building for the track and to seat a few thousand spectators. We'll have fun regardless of what the detractors say. H*ll, you could post on the message boards that the first hundred people through the gate would be given a million bucks and some of them would b*tch that it's not two million. I don't get it, how can anyone walk around with that sour of an attitude all the time and get any joy out of life?

That's the same weekend as the outdoor opener that Friday and Saturday night. They'll be opening with their usual two-day show of Late Models, Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks. If you haven't made plans to do so already you'll want to hang around in the evening for the races because it's usually a good show. They typically draw extra cars on opening weekend because not many of the other tracks around our area have opened yet.

Unless there is a major development that prevents this from happening, the intent is for the Sandbox Track to replicate as close as possible the Chili Bowl track - size, banking, etc.
Remember, the total building size of the Tulsa Expo Center (now Quick Trip Center) includes the pit area, trade show area, etc. which are all in addition to what is needed for the track itself - I estimate that only about 1/3 of Tulsa's facility is actually used for the track - which by chance would be pretty close to the size of Sandbox.
Car count to be seen, but I think the facility should be pretty nice.

Watch it! Making a few bucks is unpopular with some these days.
