I'd say get your T-shirts Tuesday to have the best choice.

I don't know many places to eat.... but...

There's a neat historic basic food place on Rte. 66 (is that 11th?) somewhere - parallel of the Expo Center or a little West of there.  Also some Coney Island places that are really neat.  One is Just to the right on the first main street West of the Expo Center.  It's in a little strip shopping center on the right.   Don't I give good directions?   I'd like to find a good place to eat Chili.   I don't think the Berryman's place is still open.  If you don't know - they sponsored the first Chili Bowl, thus the name "Chili Bowl".  It didn't have anything to do with the weather.  Also the reason for "Red, Hot & Spicy" for the tape of the first 10 years of the Chili Bowl - which is a really good tape, by the way.

I need to get a map of Tulsa to get ready again.

Oh - if you happen to be into art deco architecture - Tulsa is a great place.  Start out with the old pavilion in back of the Expo Center - across the back parking lot.  In the '40's they had indoor racing in there in the winter.   This used to be a beautiful town, but like much of Oklahoma I'm afraid that most of the trees have been decimated into mere skeletons of their old selves... if they still exist at all.  What a shame.  It will be sad to drive through some of the neighborhoods.

273 cars to date.  I wonder how many more will enter.  However, I think that's enough to put on a good show.   It's great to see Travis Rilat get a good ride.  He's always fun to watch.

Apart from eating, if you are looking for something to do during the day that is kind of neat, go visit the Will Rogers Museum. It is about an hour north of Tulsa, but worth the trip. (Yeah, I know...I am showing my age. All you young kids out there are going, "Who is Will Rogers?" Well, he was a movie star, cowboy, politician before Ronald Regan.) Anyway, if anyone is interested, I will get directions from my husband and post.

I second Ike's Chili. Tulsa's best chili and I've tried several around town.

For Burgers try Webers Root Beer (if there still open, one of the owners died a year or so ago), great for a chili cheeseburger. Hanks Burgers is also pretty good.

An actual chili cookoff would be really cool. Have some prelims, a few days of heats (get it?) and the big cook off on Saturday. Crown the champ and sign autographs. LOL

Talley's at 11th and Yale is our regular hangout. Good diner food.

I also like Viet Huong. I think it's on 21st just down the street from the CB. Good asian food.

Carol's right! The coney place in the strip mall is great. I can't for the life of me tell you how to get there though...

I've been wanting to eat at Jamil's, but the aforementioned places are so good that we haven't made it yet... in eight years.

First- a quick "map" of Tulsa. The main North/South streets starting on the West side of town heading East are: Riverside Dr., Peoria, Lewis, Harvard, Yale, Sheridan and Memorial. The main East/West Sts. From North to South are Admiral (1st), 11th, 21st, 31st, 41st, etc. The numbers of the N/S streets correspond to the intersecting E/W numbered streets. The E/W streets start numbering at Main in Downtown. Okay - now I'm confused too. For reference - the Expo Center is on 21st St. between Harvard & Yale. Ike's Chili Parlor at 5941 E. Admiral Pl. would be between Yale and Sheridan - closer to Sheridan. Hank's Hamburgers - 8933 E. Admiral Pl. - East of Memorial on Admiral (but before Mingo - we didn't cover Mingo, I know) Jim's Coney Island - 1923 S. Harvard is just North of 21st St. (the street that the Expo Center faces) - thus go right (West), out of the Expo Center and turn right on Harvard (I believe the first traffic light) and right into the small strip shopping mall and there it is. Allen's Coney Island - 5151 S. Peoria. It is just North of I-44, East of where it crosses the Arkansas River. There are other Coney Island places around town. Weber's Root Beer Stand - 3817 S. Peoria. S. of 38th on Peoria. This is the site of the original store opened in 1933. Great root beer. http://www.webersoftulsa.com/. My Father tried to get them to let him open a franchise in Atlanta after WW II and they wouldn't part with their recipe so we moved back to Tulsa. Thank goodness, otherwise I wouldn't have had dirt midget auto racing in my blood. I hope this helped more than it confused... Oh yeah - and as Roosta said - for diner food - Talley's at 11th and Yale

Don't forget, where I-44, I-244, 412 and 193rd E. Ave collide, is the Cherokee Casino. Great Buffet, entertainment and the chance to win enough to pay all your expenses.

SE corner of 21st & Harvard is Burger Street - they have a drive-thru pretty decent burgers n fries and is a real quick dash from the track.

Hey Speedbump! I just called the Cherokee Casino Inn and they have about 10 rooms remaining. There all single queen bed rooms and the rate is $49 Sun through Thursday, $59 Friday- Saturday. The clerk said these final 10 won't last long so anyone interested needs to respond quickly.

This Motel is not connected to the Casino/Resort but is only a short block away. It used to be a Super 8 and the Casino bought it out about a year ago and completely refreshed it and run off all of the Professional Ladies. Well maybe not all of them? lol. The Hotel connected to the Casino is pretty pricey, starting at around $100 per night.

There 800 number is 760-6700. You can also find more info at www.cherokeecasino.com click on hotels and Cherokee Casino Inn.

Good luck, see ya in a few weeks

WaDo, Roger
