If Michael Jordan knows who Kyle Larson, Bell, Corey Day, and a few others are....He knows who Kinser, Schatz, and Swindell are.

I always wondered if Bobby Knight & John Mellancamp knew Steve Kinser personally. I know Mellancamps' guitar player Larry Crane was a sprint car guy.

I can tell you that John Mellencamp was in the pits at a WoO race in Bloomington one night I was there in the later 90's, but beyond that, I don't know if he was there to hang out with someone specific. But he was definitely there.

Speaking of celebrities and sprint cars, did any of you ever notice Tommy Lee Jones was wearing a Shaver Racing Engines t-shirt in the opening scenes of the movie Volcano?

I thought that was pretty cool.

And I recently saw another actor was wearing a Turkey Night midget tshirt while he was out and about in LA (I didn't pay attention the contents of the article, I just saw the shirt - it was Shia LaBeouf).

Anyway, getting off the topic of this post, but since you mentioned Mellencamp, it made me think of the others.

Mellancamp was also at a WoO race in Bloomington in the mid-late 80s as well as the aforementioned late 90s. I would guess they were aquainted.

Its been a lot of years but when I read "Still Wide Open" it seems like Doty refenced a time in Wooster when Himself, Haud, Mellencamp & K.Jacobs were chillin out at Mellencamps house when they were really young. May not have been Dotyts book but I know I read it somewhere because there was mention of Mellencamp working on "Little Pink Houses" at the time.

Wasn't John Mellencamp from Wooster?

Comedian Shane Gillis is from Mechanicsburg and has been seen at Williams Grove frequently. Post Malone has a cousin Erik Rudolph who's a top dirt modified driver.

Check out a show on Netflix called 'Tires' featuring Shane Gillis, it's pretty damn funny. He and others who were cast on that show were with him at the Grove back in 2024.

Sorry for hijacking the thread again

Didn't Joe Montana go to Calistoga all the time?

Bret Micheals was a Williams Grove fan.

Adam Sandler went to either Volusia or Ocala a few times while he was filming Waterboy.

Chili Bowl is where I've seen a couple of minor celebrities (Cable TV): Barry Weiss from "Storage Wars", a true gearhead, and "Daddy Dave" from "Street Outlaws", who was working on Kevin Swindell's crew a few years back

Bruce Springsteen mentioned in his autobiography going to Wall Stadium (N.J.) in the 1970s, just before his career blew up with "Born to Run."
