Yes but there is something romantic about traversing the country, full of wanderlust, going from town to town stealing the locals money & women. Perhaps fracturing a law or 2 along the way.
I guess the gambling theme could draw a parallel with racing in that there is a good chance you will lose all your money, home, wife, GF, side piece, 401k, and possibly your life. Think Nicolas Cage in the movie 'Leaving Las Vegas'.
