we live about a mile and a half from the track so getting there is easy for us.  so is leaving.  i could have done a better job making sure rico was going to be there in particular.

the crowds looked to be great so i'm clearly in the minority.  i just don't think the woo product is where it needs to be right now.

You are correct, it's not where it needs to be.    Neither series can claim it has "all of the best drivers".    Rico, Sunshine, Sweet, and Reutzel aren't at most WoO races.   Then again Gravel, Macedo, Schucart, and Sheldon aren't at most HL races.    My opinion is that the split totally sucks.

WOW!  Really shocked about the post leaving after time trials.  I have not been to a Natty Open in several years, but I remember the electric atmosphere of the crowd in the few I have attended in the past.  You cannot beat the rivalry of the Posse Vs. The Outlaws.  I cannot imagine leaving after time trials.

One reason given was that Corey Day and Rico were not in attendance.  I have news for you, they would have been spanked by the posse the night you attended.  There was NO one that was going to beat the locals.  That is called having them covered!!  In all seriousness, the race must have been amazing Friday evening!  Saturday night I watched the A Main while driving home from work, (not recommended), and I was way more engaged than I should have been while driving.  The drama of the top 3 or 4 guys battling for the win was pretty damn good.....and this was from Dirtvision.

Don't know the age of your kids, but there surely must be other ways to get them interested other than ice cream.  How about a trip into the infield?  How about having everybody taking turns picking a car they think will win the race that is on the track?  How about talking to them about the history of the track being you live so close?  Give them info on the cars, cost of a motor (as much or more than the car you drive depending on the car), reason for the tire stagger, purpose of the top wing, changes they make to a car in the course of the night, etc.  There are SO many different ways to get them involved.  The more they get involved with the racing, the better chance they will want to attend.  It will be great for the future of the sport as well.

I look forward to the next race I can attend at the Grove when the Outlaws are there.  There is nothing like the atmosphere that permeates at those races!
