In the story, it's mentioned that Phillips joins 7 other drivers who have won in all three sprint car classes at Knoxville- 305,360, & 410. One of those 7 listed was Randy Smith. Didn't he retire years before the 305 class was started? I bought a Randy Smith T-shirt towards the end of his career. It cost $12 and I thought it was 30-40 years ago.

Yes it was. I thought for sure on the late caution his Goose was cooked with Austen & Rico on his tail but he held strong.

Very glad to see him get the win and especially against that stacked field... One of the loudest applause's I have heard from the grand stands this year.

It does show Rany Smith as having 1 win in the 305 class in their history section.  Curious as well.  Were there some 305 races there before it became a regular class?

Update:  I found it.  From an article April 30th, 2010 he won the 305 race outpacing none other than...............Tasker Phillips.

Wow thanks for digging this up. I think 305s have been around longer than some think.

There have been some good drivers and former big time crew chiefs run through this class as well that some people have probably forgot about.

The 305 Racesavers are doing well. Knoxville had 305 but motors were getting to expensive so the PRO sprints were created but although a good place to start havent grown much and arent legal to run anywhere else. 14 cars isnt enough to put on good show.
