Will be traveling to CA this week and want to hit the USAC/CRA while going between San Diego and LA. Are there any hotels within an hour of the track where my rental car won't get stolen? Riverside and San Bernardino both read like crime ridden dumps.

It has been a few years back, but my in-laws used to live in that general area and we visited them a couple of times.   I always thought that general area was really nice.   I agree with the above post just go to Hotels.com and find a name brand chain that you are comfortable with and you should be good.   Generally, the major corporations avoid the really bad neighborhoods.

PAS is a great track.  I hope you have a great time.   Also, in that area is the Lake Elsinore Storm, they are a single A club of the pirates.  It was a really cool little ball park.   If you have time, I would check them out as well.

Looking at my road atlas, now I remember... I stayed in Moreno Valley, no problems at all

Funny thing about roads numbered 74.... also the "scenic route" from Williams Grove to Port Royal. Both 74s are scenic Smile

Riverside and San Berdoo have some areas with high crime, all depends on where you stay.  This time of year the Palm Springs area will have good deals. It is not a bad drive.  Hotel near ONT would be a safe bet.

CA 74, the Ortega Hwy runs through the Cleveland National Forest to get you near PAS.  SJC will be far more expensive than the Springs or anywhere in the Inland Empire.

A decade ago when I went as a spectator we enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Lake Elsinore.

I wasn't suggesting he stay in San Juan Capistrano.... just talking about the scenic, low traffic drive. I only went to SJC to visit my cousin. I actually called her the first nite & said I wasn't coming cause I was so rattled by the awful traffic driving from LAX to Perris. Then I looked at the map & discovered this road & had a nice visit... Smile

I guess I drifted off topic, didn't I ?
