IThe price to be competitve in midget racing is turning many teams away, they cost almost as much as a top dollar sprint car and pay way less. IMO USAC is killing most of the regional midget racing with their cost to compete.

I agree. IMO, you can usually count on USAC to do the wrong thing in any given situation.

Its seems to be all the big time midget racing. Look at POWRI. They have had races in the single digits for car counts. The Extreme series usually does not even get a full field of cars either.

The only time there is midgets galore in Oklahoma is in January. I was happy with a 24/25 car count.
There was a time when the POWRi West teams could really help bolster a show, but those times have passed. Last weekend was a dual POWRI West/ POWRi show and they were getting 9/10 midgets for a two day show.
The health of any of the series is really dependent on the number of KKM cars there. However, KKM does support USAC and Xtreme very well. He is much more pick and choose with POWRi this year than in years past.
I will gladly drive past both Winged and non winged sprints to watch a good midget show. They are the best racing that is going on. Later this month, I am going to two new tracks for me to watch Xtreme midgets in Ok. (Arrowhead and Tulsa.) And I would be very happy with 25 cars

One of the biggest problems that I see with midget racing, not just USAC, is that the Kunz rent-a-ride cars are hard to beat leaving little prize money for the lower-dollar teams.

Exactly. It also doesn't help with the Toyota motors out pricing the sport. KKR was more for "driver development" than midget racing.

Badger is pulling in 28.75 cars per show, and put on a good show.

It is refreshing to see the Badger group numbers and the racing is pretty good. The ARDC used to be the same way until the club leadership adopted the usac engine rules so they could outspend and dominate their lower budget cluIb members. Car counts dropped to 6 or 7 a race. I had heard that the ARDC wanted to go with the Badger rules but it might be to late, I'm not sure there is any interest in the club these days.

Thanks to all for your inputs.
I really really hope midget racing continues.
My dream weekly races: wingless 410's and midgets on an Indiana bullring.
And this coming from a Canadian.
We don't have anything close to the above mentioned up here.
The reason we try to find triple header weekends, down there

"My dream weekly races: wingless 410's and midgets on an Indiana bullring."
Not weekly, but:
Once again, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Cars are accompanied by the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets and POWRi National Midget League, battling for $4,000 on Friday and $7,500 on Saturday..
Ironman weekend on August 2 and 3 at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri.

I never heard of the wingless crate engine class that raced at Wilmot with the WoO, but they were quite entertaining, damn good race. Wisconsin seems to have the right idea about "budget " classes..... I'm guessing that group might be even more affordable than Race Savers?

The wingLESS class is what got me going back to my home track, Wilmot. They rarely had sprints so I did not go and when this class started, I was there every week. There are nights when it is hit or miss show but for the most part, they DO put on a good show. Friday night was an example
