I’m not aware of anyone ever doing this in modern day sprint car racing (and maybe someone out there can recall a similar circumstance from the past to share):
-44 car field. Went out to qualify and the car wouldn’t fire.
-Got no time, so has to start 11th in heat
-Passed all the way up to 4th place in heat, so he locked into A feature
-Started 15th in feature, and…

Pretty incredible.

It was a really good run but I don't think unheard of or Super Natural. A couple years ago Anthony Macri had trouble in his heat, won the B, started 19th and won the Tuscarora Fifty with pretty much a similar field. I am sure there are others.

longtimefan - that's what I was hoping this post would generate...people thinking back of other possible instances like last night, as they are pretty remarkable when they happen.

Yes. Modern Day Cowboy at Tri State. Car would not run. No TT, no heat. Scott Benic walks by and notices switched plug wires. Car now runs. Started at back of B and made it to first or second. Started back of A and won.
Within hearing distance of Tri City Speedway

Amazing run by Day last night!!!
Saw Steve show up at Millstream one night after an Eldora day race. He showed up after qualifying and heats, tagged the C and won it. Tagged the the 16 car B and ran 2nd and won the A from 22nd passing Sammy in 3 and 4 on the last lap. 82/83/84 time-frame?

Corey is on his way to Greatness and got several "TWOFERS" in the passing category...
NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A TOTAL SMACKDOWN...again by an 18 year old youngster!
Ascot was the greatest of all time..
West Capital wasn't half bad either..
Life is good...

What it usually takes is a car on rails after the trouble to pass quality cars like the are backmarkers.

Steve kinser and the Natty open at Williamsgrove. Led at the halfway point of the 75 laps. He got penalized for too many people on the track at the halfway point. He went to the rear and won the feature easily.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

1961, Terre Haute, IN, A J Foyt, 33 to 1st "Hut 100." I know it was a midget race and he started in row 11 because of three wide start. I am not sure but I think he did not get in through qualifying and paid the 33rd starter to take his spot..

I think around 2006 at I-20 Speedway in Columbia, SC the USCS were challenging the URCs and American Outlaw Action Series (AOAS), and there were around 50 cars which is huge for the Carolinas.
Kenny Adams got caught practicing twice for whatever reason so they made him start last in everything that night.
Started last in the heat out of 12 or so cars, and won it. Started last in the A-Main out of 24 cars and almost lapped the field.
I remember looking at Bryn Gohn after the race cause he was chiefing the 4A car, and even he was in disbelief.
I've still never seen a 360 go that fast, and I promised I'd never try to piss Adams off ever!

Yep, believe that was 2013 which was the first year I went to the 410 Nationals. Also gotta give a thumbs up to Jeff Swindell for going 21st or 22nd to 2nd back in 1995. The Nationals A Main wasn't broken up into two segments back then.
