Hopefully Flo takes Earl Hoon soon! It would be the best improvement at Port Royal in many years.
|
Earl was just on the Flo Broadcast.
He said the Tuscarora 50 winner will get $75,000.
He also said "Go support your local racing".
Good content. Thanks Earl !

Was OK at best!! Chase do your own thing don't copy Johnny or Blake PLEASE!!!! Announce to your own style, make your own stuff and carry on!! It's not easy following the Goats!!
|
Blake is the worst sprint car announcer. His catch phrases are annoying as hell. Blake always tries to make it more exciting then it is, like there a race for the lead down the back chute and the second place car is 15 car lengths back.

I thought that tonight's HL show was huge improvement over Thursday's show in almost every way. Entertaining streamed race.

I thought they did a decent job. Hey, I didn't have to keep reaching for the remote to hit the mute button because of the screaming. Remember, this is new for these guys also. Good win for Jacob last night. Hummm, some thought this was going to be a Brad Sweet, Rico show with kid Kyle coming in to keep the cash in the company.

I watched the replay of Thursday's race and I thought it was lame. The mix of announcers was painful to listen to and the racing product wasn't very impressive either. The next level of sprint car racing appears to be a lower level.
|
It didn't have the same intenisity level as an Outlaw race and there was a lot of Late Model races to sit through. It appears that they're trying to merge the two classes and do some shows together. We saw on Thursday what kind of crowd Sprints draw in Late Model country. They had a good crowd on Saturday night but likely was made up of mostly Late Model fans from the local area. Racing was good, not great, not bad. Fields in the mid 20's and they have a bunch of races coming up where there aren't a lot of 410's. This will take a full season to see what niche they eventually fill.
The big Husets, Knoxville, and Eldora events will be interesting with the WoO vs HL twist but at the end of the day it's all the same cars and drivers we're familiar with. The thing that I noted, and maybe this will evolve over the season, is that it didn't have that same tension in the air that the traditional big events have. They're pretty low key with a lot of support class going on.

Are the owners sandbagging....
|
Don't know about that but I wonder how many irons someone can have in the fire before it affects performance. Especially in Sweet's case. He's been a helmet bag driver for a long time and has had a sweetheart deal with KKR for most of his career. Running a series is a ton of work and really it's a 24 hrs a day job. There's no offseason break. It's a lifestyle.

That was a really good feature tonight with Allen-Courtney-Peck dicing it up. The series has kind of an ASCoC level feel to it.

"The series has kind of an ASCoC level feel to it."
Yep! The best Division II racing available.

Funny that most of the so called "race fans" bitching about Thursday's announcers have no idea that, as usual, Chase Raudman announced but had guest announcers with him I dont know, two unknowns in the late model world...Tim McCreadie and Brandon Overton. Damn, so many stupid people on here. So far, I'll take HL over World of Douchebags every time.

I thought they did great on Saturday. My grading system is - "Did they annoy me?" - That was an "A".

I'm watching the Port Royal race right now and I have to respond to this old thread. In my worthless opinion Earl Hoon is THE best announcer in sprint cars today, maybe ever. He harkens back to the carnival and midway hawkers of old , he is a treasure to listen to, I'm watching the port royal race right now. Go ahead shoot yur arrows, I will enjoy this one....

The group has a ways to go. Got tired of both announcers Thursday night complaining , they didn't know they were going to call support class. Admitted they didn't know drivers or anything about late models. Very unprofessional comments. Sprint car feature was decent, nothing spectacular.
Crowd looked very weak, yes, I know it's late model country. Cancel Friday night, hearing different stories on how much rain and sunshine. You wonder if Thursday crowd had an influence.
A shaky start for this "grow the sport and my pocket" sanctioning group.
