Watching the Shootout last night and the interview with Chad Boat where he said he brought 17 cars with him (across various classes I believe he said) made me wonder...how much do those cars cost?
Let's say I wanted to buy a new Hyper and put the best engine and parts in it - how much will that cost? I know the cost will vary across the classes - just trying to get a basic idea.
Finally, what does a stable of cars like Boat brought add up to?
Thanks.

Just checked the Hyper website, you can purschase a kit with everything you need for $10,000. I am sure Boat and his crew put their own cars together, and are not buying complete rollers. I hear Outlaw type 600 engines are approaching a minimum of $20,000 including electonics, some teams at the Tulsa shootout are obviusly spending more. So from a conserative estimate Boat is spending $30,000 to $35,000 a car X 17 equals $595.000....That is just crazy to win $1,000. Yet they have over 1600 entries every year. The expense of fuel, hotels and meals are not even figured into the equation.

Some of CBI's entries would be in the Jr. Sprint class, and if those cars cost $30k then "out of hand" isn't close to a proper description. But your point is very valid about cost vs. reward.

Of course you read about college football coaches that get paid over $75 million to get fired, or athletes getting 9 digit contracts, CEO getting similar amounts. I always wondered what they do with that kind of money. For them, racing would probably be a cheap hobby!

It's the only game in town, but for me not worth the costs.
Racers get very little track time throughout the event and the
overall costs are just getting way out of hand.
But it is motorsports, and motorsports is spelled: M-O-N-E-Y.

About ten years ago when I thought seriously about going micro racing, I was astonished with the cost. There were hotshot rigs pulling 30 foot inclosed trailers for a weekly micro show. When I was looking, the stock engine class was stating that their engine was the same you could get from a junkyard. I don't know if that is still the same now or not.

Like I've always said, no one has done as much to raise costs as owners themselves.
